“Comfort Inn Beachside, but Odd layout inside”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

Spent an evening here before departing by ferry for a conference on Mackinaw Island. in mid- September. Fair warning, the front desk clerk conceded that St. Igance "season" was pretty much over and few shops and resturants would be open.

Must say the hotel desk person was very helpful with a reservation problem and the morning breakfast (as usual) was very filling and good as per other Comfort Inn Stays however,

The front dest reception area was located near the roadway. You checked in then drove down a bit (toward the "beachside" area) to park your car and then find your room. All rooms were in this separate building "disconnected" from the lobby area. I found this to be inconvient. I was loath to cross the parking lot and walk some distance to this other building to ask a question, use a computer and /or find some coffee or a snack.

The layout of the building that held the rooms was somewhat weird. You needed to walk down a long hall way and then walk down about 5 steps for rooms at the far end. I had a large luggage and this was somewhat difficult.

Also, in this "room" building there was no where to get coffee, food or snacks. I t would have been great if there were a small kitchen (to heat up popcorn or a snack), find coffee or snack machines.

I ended up having to "back track" before I came to St. Ignace to find food at the local Burgar King because there were no small resturants in St.Ignace proper.

Finally, the rooms "faced" the lakefront which was nice, but my room seemed a bit "worn" and tatty. I think the hotel roooms could use an update. My room didn't feel special in any regard.

I probably wouldn't use this hotel again though I have found Comfort Inns pretty nice generally.

Room Tip: More middle of the building to avoid having to walk up and/or down a small flight of stairs with lug...

“Could have been better”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012 via mobile

With a bit more cleaning effort by the staff it could have been a much better experience for us. Musty smell, broken lights, and crud on floor. Ten more minutes cleaning and some general maintenance would go along way to make it much better.

“"Home" during our Fall Color Tour of the UP”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

Booked in for one night and ended up staying four. The room was large, the water hot and the view from the balcony outstanding. At night the moon comes up, shines across the water and right into your room. A perfect place to stay if you want to visit MacKinaw Island or for a home away from home if you want to take a series of circle trips up into the UP or down to Alpena or over to Petosky to view fall colour. Quiet and convenient with the added benefit of the beach or in door pool. Room 318 with the jacuzzi is great.

Room Tip: Room 318 has a great jacuzzi and is a nice size. View from the balcony is great

“Off Season, Off Weather”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

Well, it was cheaper in the off season! But the rain/fog messed up any chance of photography. As others have noted, the hotel layout is a little strange. The central elevator takes you up, but then only a half-dozen rooms are at that level, You have to go down 8 steps on either end of the building to get to the rest of the rooms. I've seen this in europe, but that was where adjacent properties had been joined into a makeshift hotel. No excuse for it here.

“Once is enough,”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

This was the first (and last) time that I have stayed on the Saint Ignace side of the bridge. I have always stayed in Mackinaw City. I am used to a bounty of things to do and a variety of restaurants, I missed that in Saint Ignace.
And the Comfort Inn?? I won't stay here again. Yes, I was in a room with a view, but it was not worth the price.
The office is up the hill from the Motel so it is a bit of a hike to back and forth. Our door key, or the door lock didn't work well, we had to try repeatedly to get the door to unlock. The room was large, I think at one time it may have been a double king...so there was a very large open space totally devoid of furnishings.
We went to the casino (drove our own car) and when we returned, there were no parking spaces left in the lot, so we made our own and got away with it.
I have no idea what the breakfast offering was as it was up the hill in a small dining area off of the check-in desk, and the place was packed....many guests did not have the opportunity to eat and just left.
The pool closed too early for us to have a chance to enjoy it.
I recommend that you stay in Mackinaw City, and if it is the casino that attracts you, be aware that they will reimburse your bridge toll....both ways.

Room Tip: I paid extra for an upgraded room with a view, I was very disappointed. Don't waste your money.
