“Very casual”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Gilbert's is a "must go" whenever we visit St. Clair Shores. Last weekend was no exception but we had a slightly different outcome. The service was great as always, my husbands 1/2 rack of ribs was great, very tender and some of the best we have had. I ordered a shrimp and pasta dish and it was bland and boring. The shrimp were fresh but not cooked and there as just no taste to the pasta. However, upon seeing that I wasn't eating it the manager came over and offered to replace it. In the end they didn't charge me anything and that left me with a very good feeling about them. We will go back but I won't order the same dish! My only complaint normally is that the music is too loud for the number of people in the room but it doesn't seem to bother anyone else as the place is normally packed.

“Casual "Lodge" Atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

Have dined here several times and never had a miss. Food is good, portions plentiful, prices reasonable.

“Gilbert's Lodge - Great "Up North" casual atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

I live close by and eat there about once every couple of months. Considering the large menu, the food is almost always good, service is always very good to excellent. Today I had one of their specials, half-slab back ribs. I usually don't have ribs because they're so messy, but these were so tender that I ate them with a fork. Make sense? Lynn is our favorite waitress.

My wife had her favorite, the buffalo wings. Quite often we have the cheeseburger and fries and I had an excellent buffalo burger there once. Shepard's pie is also very good.

Very popular with locals. Seat yourself until about 5pm. Large room for private parties. Long bar and lots of TV screens.

“Worth a Visit!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012 via mobile

Good menu selection and the menu was recently updated. Kitchen is open very late. Very good food.

The restaurant has a northern Michigan hunting lodge motif, and is SO much nicer now that Michigan has gone non-smoking!

If you've never been, or haven't been in a while, it's definitely worth a visit!

“Service perfect. Food, just ok”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

Susanne was the perfect waitress. The busboys Vince C and Mike(new) were the best young men I have seen in a long time. Scouring the tables, polite and courteous. Hopefully they are properly rewarded. The stew was awful. Tasted like a bottle of bar-b-que sauce was poured in the mix. Over powering. Someone should taste it prior to serving. Country fried steak, pork on squewers over deep fried. Greasy and boring. Fish tacos were great but needed some more stuff on them. Tomatoes, cheese that you could see and taste would be nice. The staff and service made up for the lousy food. I cannot understand why this place was so busy. Music was blasting loudly.
