“It's the Zoo. What's not to like?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014 via mobile

Go directly to the Arctic Circle to surround yourself with seals. Catch the penguins too. Giraffes, check. It may be Difficult to see lions, monkeys, and others hiding in natural habitats. But, go back another day!

“Winter at the Zoo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2014 via mobile

It's been years since I visited the zoo, and I wasn't disappointed with a winter afternoon visit. The enclosures looked great, animals appeared healthy and happy. The Arctic Cafe was open, and the food and staff were excellent. The docents were knowledgable and ensured that all visitors were having a good experience. The volunteer in the primate house made sure to point out the new baby chimpanzee to everyone. All around a fantastic way to spend a day.

“Open for the winter!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2014

The Zoo is a winter wonderland and a site not to be missed. The animals are 'frisky' in the cold temperatures. The Zookeeper shared that they too love the company of visitors. Many of the exhibits have been moved indoors where the animals are up close and friendly. The animals seemed to be watching us as much as we were observing them! The Zoo pathways are cleared and salted. All washroom facilities are open. The inner food venue with a variety of warm delights and STARBUCKS is open. As an added bonus, many souvenirs are on sale at the moment.
Do check the Zoo website for discount coupons as well!

“Holiday Lights Extravaganza”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2014

The Detroit Zoo is a too-well kept secret within the Detroit metro area. An infusion of state-of-the-art exhibits over the past 20 years have made this park one of the premier zoological gardens in North America. Outstanding and unique enclosures will give visitors an unforgetable experience with polar bears and seals (Polar Ring of Ice), with gorillas, chimps, and monkeys, with reptiles, and an eagerly awaited new penguinarium. A trip will take more than one day - the zoo has an extensive area. The park is also conveniently located near the intersections of I-696 and Woodward Ave. (M-1) and only one mile from I-75. During the weekends before Christmas, the Zoo Lights exhibits will literally take your breath away. There are also warming stations, including the Ford Pavilion/Auditorium with Santa and an exquisite and huge lego village complete with lego trains running through the complex. Entrance fees are very reasonable. The venue is ideal for the entire family. And the experience - whether at the holidays for the brilliant light display or in warmer weather for getting up close and personal with the fauna, the Detroit Zoo promises to be a memorable experience.

“Great location for a winter outing.i”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2013

I was pleased to see a good amount of animals out. There are a good number of inside displays as well to allow you to warm up.

I would have liked to see a few more kiosks open selling hot cocoa or coffee to warm up a bit more.
