“A favorite....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2012

Ok, yes, this place is more geared for the men, with a younger waitstaff in Hooters-style outfits. I'm female, but still very comfortable here.

However, these ladies are trained very well, and offer exceptional service. Very friendly. They know their regulars.

The owners are often on the floor asking how everything is. We've even had the cook come ask us how our food was.

Food is quite good. I've had many of the menu items, and have never been disappointed.

Place is always busy. $1.00 drafts until 8 pm. The draft changes monthly, so ask your server.

Entertainment: 2 pool tables. Keno. Depending on the night, they have karaoke, a DJ, Trivia....Age range of patrons varies from young to 60-ish.

“Great Food, Service Not So Great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2012

Dooley's is an interesting place! They have a DJ with a small dance floor and two large pool tables plus lots of space to hang out with friends. They always have a lot of customers, not just the young crowd, but people of all ages. We visited on a Sunday night and surprisingly there was quite a crowd.

The sign on Gratiot advertises $1 pints ALL DAY. What a deal you think right? We got there at 7:30 PM, and we wanted to get the fish and chips. So we had five orders of fish and chips and the $1 pints sounded like a great deal so we ordered a round of those too. The $1 pints are different every night so we had to ask the waitress what they were that night. She totally neglected to tell us that the pints were $1 only until 8 PM even though the sign says ALL DAY. That seemed like important information we as customers would have liked to know!

So our bill consisted of the fish and chips, 2 Cokes for the non-drinkers (that were never once refilled and we sat there for awhile) and then about 12 beers. The bill wasn't adding up right, and upon a closer look we realized there was two separate columns for beer, one that tallied the beers at $1 each and the second line tallied the beers at $3 each. Quite a price jump to go from $1 beers to $3 beers.

I quickly realized either the beers were only $1 until a certain time or that there was a limit of like 5 at the $1 price. We questioned our waitress and she said the $1 beers only last until 8 PM. This was aggravating to us because we felt when we asked the waitress what the $1 beers were that she could have at least told us that was only until 8PM. She had no problem bringing the beers quickly for $3 each but she couldn't ask about refills on the Coke!

On the plus side, the food was really good. Their fish and chips were some of the best around, their soup is delicious and the salads are very well made. The only real downfall is the wait staff. They should be upfront. It feels like they run your bill up on purpose in hopes of getting a larger tip. They aren't very friendly to you, but maybe that would be different if we weren't a mixed group with men and women! And the sign on Gratiot should not read $1 pints ALL DAY when they only offer them until 8 PM!
