“Pretty good Mexican for Kalamazoo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013 via mobile

Tried the chicken diablo and it was spicy and good. Girls loved the fried ice cream and sops pillars. Staff does not appear to speak much English. They were friendly and attentive. Interior decor is a little hokey.

“Yuck!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013 via mobile

Tried this new place out and it was not great, the burrito sauce tasted like marinara sauce. And I thoughtmmaybe it was just me but a coworker came in and said the exact same thing a week later. My tacos were drippingwwith grease. The floor was tile with grout, so my seat was constantly wobbly, it was a new place and the menus needed a good cleaning. And worst of all, I found a short black hair floating in my drink,(I have long blonde hair) didn't see it til the end of my drink, but yuck. Service was good though. And I thought my drink was good til the hair.

Overpriced for what you get. There is way better out there.

“Riviera Mediocre”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

We anticipated trying Riviera Maya when they first started renovating the building where they are located, especially since Mi Ranchito, our previous favorite Mexican restaurant closed. We finally had the opportunity last week and we were disappointed. It wasn't good, it wasn't bad. It was perfectly average. It's not a restaurant we will return to. We had a vegetarian combo and a pork enchilada. Both dishes were spoiled by what tasted like processed liquid cheese. Also, the enchilada was doughy, although the pork and sautéed vegetables were good. It came with rice and lettuce. The number of obese diners at the restaurant are a testament to the size of the portions. Food quantity definitely trumps quality. A couple of other things bothered us. The styrofoam to-go boxes are stacked on a half-wall that separates the entry area from the dining area. Every time a server needed a box for a diner's leftovers, he had to reach over our heads. The other thing that bothered us was that the cart with the tubs of dirty dishes was left out in plain view in the dining room, along with a broom; a spray bottle and rag were lodged in a planter. Not very appetizing. Our service was friendly and efficient.

“Nice addition to Mexican restaurant choices in Kalamazoo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013 via mobile

Food is good and plentiful. Service is attentive. The only negative is the liquid cheese they pour on some of the dishes. If you order chili Reno or chimichanga ask that they use real cheese and you will be much happier.

“A little taste of Mexico in Kalamazoo!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

Generous portions, delicious food and great Margaritas! It took a little while for us to get a high chair for our son but once that was taken care of we could all relax. Our waiter refilled our chips and salsa without asking and never let our beverages empty. The food came out quickly and was piping hot and very tasty. Would definitely go back again.
