I was headed to Port Huron and initially had no clue as to what hotels were located in the down town area. I simply needed a room to stay in after attending a local party. What I found in the Super 7 hotel was a mixed bag. Inside the room...well, you could say it had it's fair share of people staying there! It was very run down looking and didn't smell so fresh. It wasn't cleaned ideally, either, There was still hair on the bathroom floor, and sinks looked a little scummy. The towels, however, were nicely white, and smelled of bleach. The beds themselves weren't too uncomfortable but the blankets were rather drabby. The air conditioning unit was probably the best feature of the room. It worked great and kept down the sounds of everything going on outside the room.
The man working the front desk was a very polite man who was clearly from India or Pakistan. He did have a heavy accent, but he was not difficult to understand. He seemed to be a hard-working fellow just trying to do the most with what he has. He showed us our rooms, and told me to come to the front desk if we needed anything. Again, very polite.
Outside of the hotel there is not too much to look at, but it is located in downtown Port Huron so the river isn't far. There is a wonderful restaurant that shares the same parking lot as the Super 7 and I can't begin to describe how wonderful the food and staff were there. The coffee was the best and the portions were big enough to feed two people from one order.
So on choosing which hotel you want to stay at while visiting the Port Huron area, first think about the reason you are going and how much time you will be in your room. If you are taking the Blue Water Bridge over to Canada to go to the casino and shop and are going to spend the vast majority of your time on the go, then the Super 7 might work for you. It would simply be a place to come into later at night and get some sleep, get up early and be out the door.
If going to a hotel and having your hotel stay as an integral part of the trip, then you might want to skip the Super 7. It's not the type of place to enjoy hanging out at. It's more of a place to come back to later in the evening after you are done having fun elsewhere.
There are other more expensive hotels a little closer to the Blue Water Bridge, but it's all about what you want to spend and are willing to give up for the price.
