We went to the Vintage Tavern for dinner on the night of our 33rd wedding anniversery while we were in Port Huron for a fall bicycle tour (The Bluewater Ramble). The Vintage was full to the top with high school couples and faculty/parent groups for homecoming. Despite the very busy and full house, we were served promptly and attentively with service that matched the well thought out and prepared food. We started with soup; I had the house special Dill Pickle Soup - which was refreshing and unique and my spouse had the soup de jour - a mushroom and brie. Both were served quickly, at the right serving temprature and were well made dishes. My spouse had the scallops and I had the rack of lamb for our main courses, with a lemonaid for one and a glass of Spanish red wine for the other. The meals were very good, with the scallops cooked exactly right (with no hint of over or under cooking and a tasty light seasoning) in a light and well made burre blanc sauce. The lamb was really 4 chops rather than a rack, but that is a small quibble that the dish quickly put to rest. They were served exactly to my order (rare) with a nice balanced seasoning and accompanied by a brown sauce which had a hint of tartness balancing the taste of the lamb. The salad and house dressing that came with the lamb was every bit as good as the lamb, with olives and a balance of very fresh greens, cucumbers and tomato, with a interesting house made dressing. Coffee and a slice of the peanut butter pie finished the evening for us. I've seldom had service as attentive as we received and a meal as well prepared and paced. To do this on a normal night is great, to do this with the entire upstairs and 2/3's of the main level filled with homecoming revelers borders on the amazing. The Vintage Tavern is on our must return list.
