“Exercise with a view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

To take advantage of the Chamber of Commerce type weather on Labor Day Saturday, we rented hybrid bikes at Latitude 45 ($15 for 4 hours) and set sail from right behind their store. We rode west past Bay Harbor and then back east to Bay View (about 15 miles roundtrip) with a stop downtown for lunch.

The path is smooth and flat with spectacular views. We actually enjoyed the parts away from downtown Petoskey best because they were less crowded. Several families and weekend warriors out enjoying the morning.

Glad we decided to rent instead of hauling the bikes up for the long weekend. The rentals were great (same bike in store was going for $519) and they gave us a cable lock so we could make stops along the way. We brought our own bike helmets but those were included in the rental price.

We have done parts of the TART in Traverse City and thought this route was even nicer. Wish I lived closer so I could enjoy on a regular basis.

“We're so lucky”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2012

to have the most beautiful bike trails anywhere. I just wish they had lockers to keep my bike so I wouldn't have to schlep it back and forth

“Beautiful scenery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

Just beautiful! We should have been a little more prepare. When riding our bikes from Petoskey to Charlevoix (14 miles) we did not pack enough snacks. There is really no place to purchase snacks to "refuel" until you get inot Charlevoix.

“GREAT biking experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

I LOVED this bike path. I only did a short stretch from Petoskey to Bay Harbor. Gorgeous views of Lake Michigan! I stopped for water at a small shop in Bay Harbor, soaked up the sun and views from an Adirondack chair on the beach at Bay Harbor, then headed back to Petoskey. Can't beat the combination of exercise, great views, and relaxation in the sun on Lake Michigan!

“Exceptional trail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012

We packed up our bikes and headed to Petoskey for an afternoon ride after reading good reviews about the Little Traverse Wheelway, and we were absolutely not disappointed. We parked at Bay View Park, near downtown Petoskey, walked to a restaurant for lunch, then headed out. The most beautiful part of the ride was the first portion, between Petoskey and Bay Harbor -- right along the water. There are also stretches along Lake Michigan as you get closer to Charlevoix. The trail is all asphalt, except for a stretch of boardwalk through a wetlands area, near Charlevoix. We ended up biking all the way to Charlevoix and back, right around 30 miles. For the most part the trail is flat or a slight grade, though there was one long uphill on the way back. We wished we had taken more water, as it was in the high 80's. We will ride the trail again -- perhaps start at Bay Harbor, ride to Harbor Springs, and return.
