“The State Park Beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

The Petoskey State Park and Beach is only a 5 min. or so drive from the hotel and it is a "sweet" State Park small but so beautiful. The beach was all sandy no rocks. Although the whole bay has many stones but their appointed beaches do not have stones.

“Excellent Camping!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

We camped here at the Dunes Campground over Labor Day weekend. It was perfect! The sites were large and flat with room for multiple tents. There were plenty of trees to offer some privacy, (although a few of the sites on the left side of the loop backed up to the dunes against the lake and were very open). There were plenty of electrical outlets and water stations. Restrooms and showers were clean, especially for a campground. They had a very rigorous cleaning schedule. Another reviewer mentioned that they had problems with the firewood supplied at the campground ($3/bundle), but we had roaring fires each evening without any problems.
It's just a short hike from the campground over the dunes to the beach. There are a few pieces of playground equipment and a facility with restrooms and concessions on the beach, which is beautiful. A little rocky, but not bad. It was surprisingly quiet for a holiday weekend. Stunning sunsets!!
Overall a great spot to use as a home base for a weekend. Will be back!

“Love it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

Walked here pretty much every day while on vacation. Read lots of complaints on here about getting ticketed for not paying if you enter by car. We stayed within walking distance of here and if you walk or bike in you do not have to pay. The waves were pretty good most days and the water was always clear. It was a little on the cold side but our family loves swimming so we definitely got in and swam! Beware of the seagulls if you bring a picnic...eat fast or they will attack you and your food!

We went to the beach and it was great! The older kids rented kayaks and the younger one loved the water!

Beautiful clean water, view of the bay was awesome and the beach was sand, and spotlessly clean. Not very crowded either.
