“Value at high season”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2012

The rooms are big and well laid out. Bed is comfortable. Not a lot of amenities, but the price is right at high season in a pricey area. I'd personally go for the 2nd floor -- no headlights in the windows. It's right on the highway but close to everything -- by car.

Stayed in cottage last weekend. Shirley is sweet and helpful but her husband is a rude dork who must have been bullied as a child. We were going to stay there again in Sept til I went to turn key in and had to deal with Verne. Shirley needs to keep him away from the front desk-he's bad for business. Verne-if you notice a "flaw" in someone's appearance it's rude to point it out and put your glasses on to get a closer look.

We stayed in the cottage and were dissapointed in a few ways. The AC advertised on the website is not new. It is very loud and only blows directly on the head of the bed. While we were there it was really hot and the AC was necessary but we couldn't leave it on at night. The bed was worn out and tough on the back. The ice maker on the website didn't exist. There were two tiny ice cube trays in the freezer. To get ice at the main building we would have to pay for it. Internet did not work in the cottage. We had to sit outside by the driveway to get the wireless. We made the best of everything and had a good vacation but it's always dissapointing when things advertised aren't really true.

We spent 2 nights here recently in a room located on the first floor. The beds were very comfortable and the pillows good, something that has been lacking in our recent motel/hotel visits! The room was very clean except around the window. The glass itself was very clean, but the window trim was quite dirty/dusty. The room is outdated, but charming all the same. Good size frig and a nice microwave. TV is not flat screen, but then, you really are not in your room that much (let's hope not) to watch it?! In a previous review, someone complained about the old tiled bathroom-I found it vintage and in very good shape and well maintained. There is one nice chair to sit in and a good reading lamp behind it. There is also a desk and chair, and a couple drawers to put your things.

The A/C worked well, which was a relief during the recent very hot weather the area experienced. They have a nice garden area to sit in and a few outdoor tables to eat your breakfast (not provided). They have tea, coffee, hot chocolate and a few snacks in the office you can help yourself to. Lots of maps and brochures in the office.

A great view of Little Traverse Bay and a quick ride to Petoskey or Bay Harbor.

Every room has a view of the lake and the gorgeous sunsets. It's a charming place with a sweet couple of local proprietors who are friendly and concerned about making your stay comfortable. The rooms are basic and clean. They all have a refrigerator, microwave, coffee pots, blow dryer and free wi-fi. The prices are affordable and the location is terrific. The hotel is across from a lovely walking path where you can walk by the lake or rent bicycles. There are nice local restaurants closeby (within a couple of miles). I will return here!

Room Tip: All rooms are nice. I preferred the second floor for a slightly better view, but my colleague prefer...

Felt like route 66 stop. Clean, quaint, no breakfast, good wifi, small small bed, friendly front desk, close to everything, on lake Michigan, dated bath, no amenities, lots of noise from main road, super cheap price.

My mother and I stayed here for Mother's day weekend and we loved it. The room was cute and cozy. I loved that the bathroom sink was separate from the bathroom itself (2 women trying to get ready, it helps!). The owner gave us great advice as of where to eat. She has given us great recommendations before so ask her for the great restaurants. It was quiet at night. The only downside is the water pressure, however, it is so minor compared to everything else. Loved sitting outside with a cup of coffee and looking at the lake, absolutely beautiful. Also, if you are one to ride bikes, this is the place to stay. The Petoskey/Charlevoix trail is across the street!
