“Sportscenter & Fine Dining”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

I doubt you can find anyone who could not agree with the following: Chandler's is very expensive. The atmosphere is what it is. It's small - rustic to a degree and "Up North hip" to another. The food is usually very good.

With that out of the way, it's just very hard to justify the prices at Chandler's. Sure the food is prepared nicely, and sometimes they offer high-quality wild caught fish (not farm raised) and sometimes local free range/organic chicken will find its way into the specials. But mostly there's nothing great about the food product here (in other words, you can get the same frozen meat and food truck vegetables anywhere - for a lot less). And their Select Grade filet is $41! Yes it's prepared nicely, but it's Select Grade cow! Come on!

Also consider that for whatever reason, there's a TV in this place. Strange. And Sportscenter is constantly on (seriously, it's alway on). It's really bizarre. To make matters worst, the employees are absolutely habitual about watching the TV - to a degree that they seem to find it more important than their customers (whether at their table, the bar, or having just walked in the door looking for help).

Finally, it's really, really cold inside Chandler's in the winter. Do not sit anywhere near the door unless you have very warm boots and a couple layers on (a scarf will help).

“NOT a $120 meal!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

Very disappointed. We were told this would be a great place but it was anything but. Waited over 10 minutes before anyone actually acknowledged us sitting there but service was decent after they actually waited on us. We sat outside instead of inside to beat having a reservation but they weren't really that busy either way. Food was mediocre. The Filet was okay - tender but not much taste. Veal was okay. We will not be returning to Chandler's anytime soon.

“Didn't like football on TV but delicious food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

We live in nearby Traverse City and it was our first visit to Petoskey. We decided to go downtown and walk until we found a promising place. We walked and walked and walked...and couldn't find a restaurant amid all the shops! We were starving when we finally found Chandler's tucked behind on a side street.

There is a pleasant, casual area for outside dining but we headed inside. The restaurant has a bar (with bar stools and a big TV showing sports) along one wall with small tables in the other half. It is small and very dark, so I wouldn't recommend bringing in grandma and her walker! The staff was very efficient but not what I'd call friendly. We were told to "grab a table along the wall".

The menu was filled with a nice variety of choices made with fresh, local ingredients, from cod to rabbit, chicken to steak. My hubby had the rib eye, which he deemed fabulous ($37). I had the filet, which had a delicious sauce and was cooked perfectly ($41).

Prices are pretty steep -- especially for a bar with a loud football game playing. I'd say the delicious food was worth it. But for those prices, I do wish the staff would turn off the TV and try to make things a little more special. We felt like we were eating upscale food in a sports bar.

We always try a restaurant twice, so we will try Chandler's again. Maybe they'll turn down the TV.

“Great place for a special occasion”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

We went here for our anniversary dinner while staying in Petoskey and it was top notch! The staff was wonderful, and the food was spot on! We sat outside and they had a guitar player who was excellent. The cocktails, food, wine and dessert were delicious! We highly recommend this restaurant!
