I have played many, many rounds on "links courses" in both Indiana and Michigan...but they were imposters compared to The Gailes. This is links as I imagine it in Ireland. Pot bunkers in the middle of the fairways at random spots, water all over and wind is very prevalent. Greens rolled fast and very true. This kind of a course puts a premium on your tee ball...if you don't find the fairway, you will end up with the worst 9 hole score in 3 years as I did. I readjusted my attitude and had a much better back 9. I would like to have another shot at this course now that I have played the quirky holes and have a better idea of what you need to do to score well here. This is a VERY challenging track, especially from the back tees. The clubhouse staff was friendly, and I didn't think there was any problems with the holes being marked or anything. There are a couple of double greens that I guess could be considered confusing. Oh, and I would HIGHLY recommend playing this course very early. We played in under 4 hrs, but if you get into the afternoon rounds I would hazard a guess of 5+ hr rounds if you get behind multiple groups looking for balls all day. If you spray the ball all over the place, this is NOT the course for you. Stick to the Serendella course or bring a box of balls. All in all, great track and very challenging. Can't wait for a rematch with this course.
