“Great value, Great place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2009

On my week long trip across the UP of Michigan, Scott's Superior Inn was my first stop and honestly I wish every place I stayed was a nice! I booked the place after finding it online (and reading some Trip Advisor reviews!) and was very pleasantly surprised! The couple that run the place were incredibly helpful and friendly. The Inn is a very short walk from the beach which has some beautiful views at sunset. The room was basic and clean, what I expected. My favorite part was the main lobby area. There are 2 stuffed black bears (not toys, once living!) and many other hunting trophies. Very fun to look at. All day there is coffee and popcorn in the lobby as well. What a great value for only $39 per night!!!! Highly recommended!

The room had an extra sitting/kitchen area and was more than spacious. The location was unbelievable, a short walk to Lake Superior. The town was limited, with only one or two locations to grab a bite to eat in the evening, but the scenery and the Porcupine Mtns made up for the lack of restaurants!

My husband and I decided to take a trip to the U.P. of Michigan, just to get a way after the long winter months. We like the western side of the U.P., Houghton, Hancock, Porcupine Mts, etc. Over the years we have stayed from time to time at Scotts Superior Inn & Cabins. In the small town of Ontonagon. It is a cozy, clean, and very friendly place to stay. The couple that own it (Don & Kathy) do their very best to make our stay enjoyable. We stayed in the motel, but there are cabins just down the path right on Lake Superior. What a beautiful view. This year when we stopped by for our stay, we were surprised to see the changes. The motel rooms had been up-graded, and suites were a new feature. We took one of the suites. It was so cozy, clean, comfortable, and very reasonable rates,. They have a kitchenette, and small TV setting area, and comfy beds.. Real cute. Of course the fact that we could have our little dog with us was a plus. I recommend that if anyone is traveling the U.P. of Michigan, a stay at Scotts Superior Inn on the western side will be worth your time. This family owned business is quaint to the area. A walk on the beach by Lake Superior is awesome. You may even see the Eagle's nest.

This place was an overpriced disappointment. We booked an apartment with a kitchen, living room, 3 bedrooms and 2 baths which turned out to be in the basement. It was damp, dark, cold, musty and smelly. One shower was filthy, and the other filled up with water when you used it. There were numerous lightbulbs missing, a few of which they did replace. The "kitchen" had burners that barely lit and only one useable pot. Cabinets were filthy, virtually empty and missing doors. It was connected to the motel game room ( mostly unused) by a french door with blinds that gave little privacy. and a hook for a lock. The sheets in our room were 100% polyester- YUCK! I can say that the towels were new and fluffy, and the beach here was very nice. There are some cabins on the beach that may be nicer but the apartment frankly was a dump. I guess I should have taken a hint when a sign on the front desk warned us that there would be no refunds for early departures.

  • Liked — The beach was very nice
  • Disliked — Just about everything else !!!

My wife and I are so sorry that you were so disapointed in our 3 bd. rm suite, and I guess at the time you rented it, it was a little tired and needed updating, we since have completely gutted it and remodeled it, it now has hardwood floors, ceramic tile counters, all new cabinets and appliances, every room was redone. We've also completely remodeled the upstairs and turned the rooms into suites with kitchenettes. If ever you're in the area again, please give us a chance to redeam ourselves, we try our best to keep things updated.

We decided to visit the south shore of Superior for a change and booked a room in the motel part of Scott's Cabins because it was not a chain. These small unique places are a dying breed. It was a simple
place. We did have two rooms which was very nice and I was surprised to fine wireless internet, phone, and TV stations galore. What we also found was peace and quiet, friendly staff, and a place right on the lake. The artwork was obviously hung by someone very tall and only one of the pictures tied into the lakeshore theme. These things actually enhanced my stay. I hate places that look like they all came
same decorating company. Almost forgot, the lobby is decorated with hunting trophies and antlers, quite interesting.

  • Liked — the privacy
  • Disliked — they could update the linen and buy new sheets

This nice little hotel/resort is on the south shore of Lake Superior just a few miles west of Ontonagon, MI. The hotel is not right on the lake, but a short (1 block) walk to their private beach. The room was modest but very clean and well tended to. The owners were certainly friendly and most attentive to our needs. They allowed pets, which was a life saver for us and our golden retriever as we'd underestimated the miles home and needed a short notice place to stay. I'm glad we found this little place and we'll make it a destination next time we're in the area!
We'd stayed in the hotel for under $80, but they also have two brand new, georgous cabins that sleep 6 for under $200/night right on the beach!
