“Food OK. Drinks overpriced and not good.”
The food was not bad and the service was OK. The drink situation, however, is bad and even deceitful. The restaurant is very moderately priced with dinners from 7.99 up to 15.99. I had the ultimate fajitas which are about the highest priced item at 15.99. The food was decent, not bad at all. The serving side was a little small compared to other fajita orders at other restaurants but plenty for one person. I finished it all and I am not a big eater so it was enough but you know how it is - usually you get too much.
The drink menu is full of various levels of drinks from "house" to "gold" to "top shelf", etc. You can get and ultimate patron margarita, for example. Nothing, however, has prices and if you ask they say they do not know for sure but could check. In fact the prices are very high compared to other local restaurants and especially compared to the general dinner price level. A house margarita is about $6 (can't say for sure - that was the waiter's guess!) . That is high around here and exactly double the price you pay nearby at Brann's which is a bargain but they have food comparably priced to On the Border. The Corona I ordered without knowing it's price was 4.79 which is also high in this area. 2.50 to 4.00 would be the local range. I asked about the price of the Mojito which was about $7 but ordered it since it listed premium ingredients (1800 silver tequila, coinreau, fresh lime & mint and soda - sounds good...??). It was actually sour mix and apparently tequila. It tasted exactly like a margarita mix on the rocks but the waiter said it was made with "sour mix" - they did refund my money when I sent it back since there was nothing in the description about sour mix and the drink was not a Mojito. The taste was sweet margarita mix and a small amount of tequila (not detactable). Just down the street at Bahama Breeze you can get an excellent Mojito for less $ and that is a more expensive restaurant and the price is not left as a surprise when your bill comes - the price is on the drink menu.
I think for cheap food only it is a decent place. When so-so drinks cost as much as some of the dinners, however, it is not so good any more.
