“Totally new and on target”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2014

I stopped in for dinner after work and was totally blown away by the changes at Lelu. Its been completely re-designed with warm colors and a much more cozy atmosphere, they have a new Chef and the food is fantastic. The new menu is all fresh & local food. I had the NY Strip strip dinner and Lelu Salad. The steak was tender, juicy, well seasoned and cooked exactly the way I like it, it came with smashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. The salad was fresh crisp greens, roasted beets, walnuts and goat cheese with a light viniagrette so I tasted the vegetables & greens not the dressing, For dessert I ordered the chocolate mousse which was heavenly. I was dining alone and the waitress was friendly and attentive without being obnoxious. Overall one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I've had. .

“Laid back stop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013 via mobile

Stopped here for a coffee on our tour of the leelanau peninsula. Friendly relaxing and homey. Did not eat, but menu looked good. A nice place to just stop and smell the roses.

“Super friendly service; okay food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013 via mobile

Came here as part of a Leelenau wine tour. We had a large group (25 people). The proprietor could nit have been better. He was very friendly and accommodating. The service was good but not great. The food choices are limited but interesting. It appears all of the entrees are pre-made and then just put together on the plate to be served when ordered.

The food was very tasty but overdone. The pork tenderloin was tasty but well done. The beef short ribs were also good but a little skimpy on the portion size. People who had the squash lasagna thought it was wonderful.

There is a wide selection of Mixhigan wines as well as others. There is also a decent beer selection although not all the beers on the menu are available. Oh well, which is kind of the laid back Northern Mich attitude.

Overall Lelu was nice and the extra effort from the staff made it worthwhile.

“lovely new restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

We have now eaten at Lelu several times. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Everything was good.
The menu is small, but the choices are creative and flavorful. There is also music on Friday nights and possibly more. There is a kid's menu.
They may still be working out some kinks, but this could possibly become our favorite Leelanau restaurant. Currently that title is held by Martha's Table.

“They have a long way to go”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

This is a new restaurant. They've redone the floors, and the gardens outside could be very nice. We ate outside -- once we could find some chairs without bird poop on them. We went for breakfast. They had a limited menu, so we decided on two eggs and toast. It took them forever...about 45 minutes and when it arrived the eggs and unbuttered toast were cold. Service was awful. It took 15 minutes to get some jelly. Even longer for some butter. Had to go inside to ask for it ourselves. Also got our own salt. Finally got a refill to iced tea and was charged for a 2nd iced tea. They're spending a lot on newspaper ads. The ads looks great and sound wonderful. Turned out the sushi chef made our breakfast. Scrambling or making basted eggs must take a long time? Wonder what the sushi tastes like? Northport has only one other great restaurant for breakfast or lunch at this point...North End. It will be a while before we go back to Lelu. They do have coffee and wifi access.
