“Not to be missed...Tourist or not!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2011

My husband & I visited Fischer's for the 1st time last Summer. We drove along the road looking for a place to eat for dinner...and as we passed, both sides of the road were packed with cars. We figured it must be a great place to eat so we turned around and came back. Admittedly, the wait was quite long, so we opted to take a seat at the bar the moment a couple exited. This does appear to be a popular "locals" spot, however, do not let that deter you!! The whitefish and perch are absolutely incredible and the raspberry pie is the BEST I've ever had my entire life!! We loved our meal and the charm enough to come back again the next night only to repeat our dinner selection again! We had a great experience eating at the bar & talking to the staff as much as we could given their quick pace trying to serve everyone. Take the initiative and talk to others dining if you're a tourist. People are friendly and you can learn a lot about the area from locals. DO expect to wait....but know it's well worth it!

“Best burgers, fish sandwiches, great soups and a wonderful Reuben”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2010

We love to go to Fischer's Happy Hour Tavern. We've been eating there since Stan and Yvonne Fischer, parents of the current owners, were running the place. The quality is consistently top-notch and the welcome is always warm. It's a busy place in the summer, no question, but the food is well worth waiting for and the raspberry pie -- available for only a few weeks in season -- is to die for. We enjoy stopping by in the off season when more locals arrive and there's time to sit and linger over dinner and drinks and chat with neighbors. Fischer's is definitely a don't miss stop when visiting the Leelanau Peninsula.

“A Hidden Gem Up North”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2010

One part supper club and one part local bar, Fischer's is a good choice for unpretentious, local food. There's nothing fancy here--good, meaty burgers, juicy "bar chicken," fine perch. If it's peak season (e.g., summer weekends) expect the place to be packed--and the wait long, but tolerable. The addition of the deck on the side of the restaurant adds a much-needed place to sit during the wait (you used to have wait inside a cramped porch or hang out outside).
The restaurant operates without pretention, and has a comfortable northern Michigan vibe. Inside is a small bar--seating roughly 6 or 8 people, I'd guess. Another 20% of the floor space is filled by a pool table--something rather amusing since with all the tables and chairs scattered around it would be impossible to play pool there anyway. In fact, the pool table serves more as a sideboard for the waiters and waitresses than anything else. Seating space is cramped, but hey, it's a friendly place, you know?
Bar service is equally good with several good taps and wine options. Save room for dessert--even if the raspberry pie is sold out (it goes early), the cream puff is holy-moly good.
Keep in mind, too, that Fischer's is somewhat out of the way, and easy to miss entirely. But it remains a good option if you're returning from a day of sightseeing (ending at the Northport Lighthouse, for example), or the wineries (Gill's Pier Winery is right nearby).

“Love the fish sandwich”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2010

We go to the Happy Hour at least once a month with the kids for dinner. The fish sandwich and fish dinner are always good. The raspberry pie is AMAZING. They only serve it in July when it is raspberry season. I dream about his pie the other 49 weeks of the year.

The deck is nice for bird watching.

“Hands down...the best food in Leelanau County!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2010

Travelling on a too short vacation with my family, and having in the past personally tried most of the restaurants in the county that seem to range from just ok to pretty good but with iffy service, I realized I had never eaten here. So we decided to give it a go.

Fresh Whitefish - the best!
Fresh Perch - The best!
Steak Sandwiches - just amazing!

Beer Selection - outstanding (cold Bell's Oberon on tap along with many others)

Service - genuinely friendly

This is not to be missed if you are looking to have a good Leelanau County meal.
