“Clean bright room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

No table or desk in room for computer or at which to eat the breakfast cereal we brought along. Bathroom vanity large enough for our toiletries. Only 1 towel bar - too close to the vanity for even the hand towel! Fine for an overnight stop but would miss horizontal surfaces/drawers for much longer.

Thank you so much for your review, they are always helpful.

It has been a while since your review, but I wanted to let you know that we are listening. Since your review we have begun adding desks and desk chairs to our single queen rooms, since they don't have the bistro tables and chairs like the doubles. I still have six more rooms to go, but they will be completed soon.

It's not always easy to guess which amenities are most wanted by customers, but after reading your review and realizing that more and more people travel with their computers and tablets, the need for a desk that you can sit up too seemed obvious. Thank you for the eye opener.

Best regards,

We stayed just one night at the Parkaway (Evening Star's other building). The place was reminiscent of the motels of our childhood, but clean, well-equipped, and pet-friendly. The owner was friendly and accommodating--when we told him that the room he'd given us hadn't been made up, he immediately gave us another one. We'd been camping and had quite a bit of food with us, so the refrigerator was a godsend for storage while we replenished our ice supply. Though we didn't use either, the pool and outdoor charcoal grills were additional advantages.

We had a very enjoyable two night stay. Dale the owner is very personable. very clean facilities pool is very well taken care of and water is a great comfortable temp. We will definitely stay again. One side note mattress is very old really should be updated but still better than some I have slept on.

Thank you for submitting your review.

I know that my response is pretty late, but I wanted to let you know that we do read them, and we do take what our guests say to heart

I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay with us! I also wanted to let you know that we have purchased and replaced 26 sets of mattresses and box springs since your stay. I know we will never be done replacing them, but we did eliminate the ones that were getting too soft for the guests.

Thanks again!

This is the friendliest and cleanest motel I have stayed at in the U.P. Beds are comfortable, as are the pillows. The towels and washclothes are thick, not the cheap thin kind. Well worth the $67.00 a night! The website holds true to its descriptions! New pool too!!!

there were 10 people in our group and we had a wonderful time! The rooms were very clean and cozy. The fridge and microwave were useful and the pool was excellent. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We really liked that the motel was centrally located near area attractions which was an added convenience for our large group. If you like to exercise they also provide a couple of treadmills and elliptical machines. Newberry is a quaint small town and the people we met were very friendly. We have already decided to stay here again when visiting this area of the UP!

Room Tip: We had three rooms on the south side and they were sunny and quiet and close to the coffee machine.

The price is good, the owner is friendly, the room was older, but mostly clean. However, the beds were completely worn and out and very bouncy. We stayed on the Park A Way side in Room 1. With a decent bed, this would be a good find. As it is, my wife and I got very little sleep because when either one us moved, the other was tossed about. We also tended to roll to the middle of the queen size bed because of how used the mattress was. Finally, I would suggest an investment in some of the new curved shower curtain rods. The old straight rod was hung inside the shower which caused the curtain to stick on us while showering. Yuck!

Thank you for leaving a review for us, they really do help make us better.

We wanted to respond to let you know that we do take your reviews seriously. After reading your review, we immediately changed out the beds in that room, because as you stated one of the two was soft, and needed to be replaced.

We have also made adjustments to the shower curtain rod, as this was hung too far into the tub just as you described.

Some of these things are not always obvious to us, as we do not shower or sleep in the rooms, and that is why customer feedback is so important to us.

Thanks again!

The owner was friendly enough, but not overly considerate or accommodating. He was often hard to find when we needed something (stepped out of his office) but can easily be reached by phone. Rooms are outdated, but the fridge and microwave were nice. The pool was actually pretty nice, and they do have a couple of treadmills and ellipticals if you want to work out. We liked that the motel was centrally located for day trips around the UP. It was a decent motel considering the price. Nothing fancy, but it's quite affordable.
