“A lovely atmosphere, but food not 5star.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

We decided to try Skip's after a tasting at St. Julian Winery in Union Pier, MI. The knowledge that they served local wines, made our decision easier. We were greated by a friendly, and
curteous manager and staff.
There is an "All you can eat, Buffett " offered that included, oysters, king crab, etc. for a reasonable price, but we chose to order off the menu. Each dinner included soup, salad, bread, and entree with a side. Our server offered to pack our soup "to go" , we felt we could not eat it.
How wonderful, to find a server that was so helpful.
I chose the prime rib...it was superb...with au jus that was wonderful. Dave chose the walleye,
2 beautifully broiled 6 oz. pieces.
For dessert we chose the turtle cheesecake, which was delectible.
Our leftovers were packed to go, and we felt we would definitely return again.
Skip's offers local Michigan wines. That is not true of many restuarants. Harbor Country wines
are so good, and often overlooked by eateries in the area.

“Skip's - New Buffalo, MI - Thursday night: Build Your Own Burger”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Skip's Restaurant on Red Arrow Highway in New Buffalo - Thursday night is build your own burger night. It's been a long time coming, but Cathie and I went there tonight (03/28). The beef burgers are made from a blend of beef tenderloin, New York Strip, and prime rib meats - 8-oz of it! I had a beef burger with Swiss cheese and toppings of: bacon, sautéed mushrooms, avocado, a nice mild salsa, and a liberal squirt of their signature Dijon mustard/horseradish sauce. Cathie had a turkey burger with Swiss cheese, avocado and mustard/horseradish sauce. Throw in sides of fries and fried onions, a couple of glasses of wine (for Cathie) and a giant martini (for me) and the bill was $45 after tax and pre-tip.

Let me tell you the beef burger was excellent! Just enough fat in the meat to keep the burger moist, plus the taste of the premium meat.

Now I've got three great burger places from which to choose: Skip's in New Buffalo, Nelson's in Three Oaks, and North Shore Inn in Benton Harbor. I'm going crazy! NOTE: Skip's also has a full menu of fine meats and fish, as well as a super buffet on Friday and Saturday nights. Edge goes to Skip's.

“Wonderful meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

We had dinner here on a Saturday night. They were very busy. We had made reservations and were seated right away. Our server had a very large party next to us, but was still very attentive to us and we received great service. The buffet was offered that night. It was a great value if you like crab, shrimp, etc. The line for the butcher station was very long.

We chose to order off the menu. My husband had prime rib and I had the filet mignon. The potato soup was outstanding...the best I've had. The meals were outstanding. We took the Reese's cake to go and enjoyed it later.

We will definitely eat here again when in the area.

“Like family!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013 via mobile

Had an awesome 18th year anniversary dinner. Rhonda and Marci were so sweet and super attentive. They took pics for our celebration and made us feel so welcomed. Skips was one of our highlights of our lil getaway to Union Pier. BTW, thanks for talking me into the lava brownie...yummm! And I am no longer a prime rib virgin..;~}. Wil return with our kids in the summer.

“Skip's”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

Went on a Saturday night. Not greeted right away but when server appeared we were seated. Kind of older crowd and a bit stuffy. Very quiet at first and slightly awkward for such a large space. Waitress was slow but attentive. Missed a few things on the menu. Offered different sides to different people at the table. Wife had the buffet which she seemed to enjoy. Stated the prime rib was overhyped though. A buddy of mine had the ribeye which he enjoyed. I had the filet (to be safe as not many places have good/quality steak in SWMI) which was reasonably priced and tasty. One of the better tasting steaks I've had in the area as well. Overall a decent meal, not to great but also not that bad. Probably will eat here again.
