My wife and I liked the hotel , its ambiance and our bedroom but all this pales into insignificance as the Big 31st December New Year's Eve dinner turned into a nightmare!
We were really looking forward to it ; it was going to be a gastronomic delight .
It was to be 12 courses and each one was very intricate .
We started eating at just minutes before 8pm and everything was fine until10pm when we had completed 7 courses.
Our plates were cleared away by about 10.15pm and then we just sat and waited and waited. The couple beside us , who were on a different menu to us were served 2 more courses and then got their bill ,paid and left , saying to us as they left "Were we going to sit around all night?"
At 10.40pm I left the dining room and expressed my concern to 2 fairly senior staff. They said that this was really too slow and they gave the impression that they were going to sort things out ie bring us our next course!
After a further 15 minutes of inactivity and being totally ignored we left the dining room at 10.55pm as no one had come near us to speak to us at all - we felt totally defeated and very disappointed.
As we left the staff said that there was a problem in the kitchen! This was the first time anyone had relayed this info to us!
The meal was very expensive and though we were offered a very slight discount we were very hurt and angered by the arrogance of the madam ( hotel owner)who felt that it was our fault and that we did not understand the complexities of the meal etc She told us that no one else had complained. We tried to ask her if a 55 minute wait was acceptable? Her arrogance meant that she couldn't see it as her hotel's fault.
We have stayed in Gleneagles and have eaten in the Ritz etc so we don't consider ourselves novices when it comes to judging hotels and restaurants but we were very disappointed by the reaction of the hotel owner and her staff.
