“Loved! Loved! Loved!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013 via mobile

I didn't know what to expect, this being my first time staying at a chateau. It was a hidden gem at the end of a tree lined entry way. I thought it was magical! Everything about the place was charming...From the grounds, to the owner, to the animals,to the quaint bedrooms. I also loved how the owner accommodated All of our needs. Our time here was way too short and I have to make sure we stay here longer next time.

We stayed here for a few nights recently. We were met on arrival and shown around, and informed that there was a function that evening which would include some fireworks, and a hunt on the following day. We thought that sounded quite interesting, and thought nothing more of it.

The rooms we were in needed attention. A can of someone's deodorant was left discarded under the lounge chair in one room, the curtains revealed dead flies when pulled back - it was not filthy, but someone had just not taken care to really clean the place properly. The grounds were lovely, and our kids enjoyed the animals on site (ducks, donkey etc). It was interesting to look around the place, although that only took 5 minutes. We saw no evidence of the other activities listed on the web site, and the place appeared more focused on the events at the chateau than guests. The fireworks were at midnight, right outside the rooms we were in, and the noisy party went until 3am.

Breakfast was abysmal. In a country so full of great food and produce, someone has gone to great effort to provide a breakfast so bad. Kids had plastic cheese for breakfast. Coffee and tea was awful. No Wifi in the rooms. Most uncomfortable beds. Stay somewhere else.

Oh, but if you do stay here, ring the bell!

My boyfriend & I recently spent a wonderful month traveling around France. The Loire Valley was one of my favourite places & Chateau de Jallanges really made it something special. I think the Chateau captures the essence of the French country side. We had a warm arrival with a beautiful glass of a cool, pink, mystery aperitif, & macaroons. The staff & owners were super friendly, & also allowed us our privacy as we enjoyed the gardens (getting merrily drunk on the delicious wine produced on site & going for a chat with the donkey), & also the pool.

Breakfast each morning was a treat - an amazing spread that included many of their preserves & marmalades made on site. The room was fantastic! Old country charm, huge rooms, beautiful bath for long, wine-soaked evenings. Be sure to ask about the history of the building.

I was disappointed reading other recent reviews. I did not feel that the property was dirty, as others have written. It's an old property & they have been true to it. I saw a maid on duty each day of our stay. It's not a Best Western & that's a wonderful thing. If you are after a bit of magic - stay here. We had no problem getting our bags up stairs, however I can imagine you might if you are a bit older. Be sure to email them in advance your arrival time so that they can help you up with them. They were there on our arrival & offered to help us, but we were fine on our own.

It seems our experience was similiar to others - from having to drag our luggage across a very large courtyard area through a wedding which was in progress, to arrive in rooms that needed a thorough clean plus around the clock hot water and a fresh breakfast. The summary of our stay includes cold baths/showers, sour milk with stale croissants at breakfast, very dusty rooms and a couple of pretty noisy wedding nights! Perhaps the owners need to decide whether they are a wedding venue or serious B&B because at the moment they don't seem to be able to cope with both. It's a shame as it is a lovely location and a chateau filled with promise.

We had booked and stayed for 3 nights in July . Grounds beautiful, gardens lovely, great staff, Helen at reception is fantastic, very helpful. We stayed downstairs as I can't go upstairs. The room was very big, big bathroom. We felt that the whole chateau needs a lot of cleaning polishing tidying up, in our room especially. The corners all had spider webs, the sheets were no longer white, but gray, the towels were so bad, small thin like you bought them from the supermarket, again over used and not white at all but grey. The bathroom was carpeted and the whole room smelled of urine. In the bedroom there were 4 tables, lots of things antiques. What it looks like , is that they go to op shops, buy goods Place them where ever, no taste no planning no thought, no matching of anything CLUTTER everywhere. Nowhere to sit to read a book , only some upright chairs in the room, lounge in chateau the same story, a sofa in one room in the corner of one room, the armchairs in an other room, on dining room old irons displayed, then you have all modern sculptures , they can have a room just to display old things and antiques.the bathroom has blue cornice around tile, pastel pink Around door trimmings, vanity has poly urethane doors, grey marble tops, red carpet on floor, wardrobe in bathroom not bedroom, even though there is. Cupboard , old fashion stand up mirror in bathroom that belongs in bedroom, towel rail behind mirror that you can't get to it... No matching of anything. In bedroom top of bed should match bedspread but of course not. Under windows are beautiful original seats, but they have tables in front of them so u can't see them, bar fridge in bathroom, coffee and sugar on one side of room, kettle on the opposite. NO tv, anywhere, nothing to do, can't even sit to read. I did not like it at all HATE it. Do not go or at least ask to see photos of the room, and do not take the downstairs corner room. Did not feel like a chateau and not a hotel.

Room Tip: Don't take the downstairs corner room!!

Upon arrival, there was no one to help us with our bags. We had to climb three flights up a winding narrow staircase. The room smelt of mould and damp. Surfaces were clean but rugs were dirty. The furnishings were second hand, not antique and the general theme of the room was "junky clutter". The facilities described were not available. The Billiard table was locked up and it was made clear that we really weren't meant to use it. The list of criteria to use the swimming pool was absurd and therefore clearly not meant to be used either.Breakfast included stale bread and plastic cheese. Fortunately, we were able to stay out late and avoid the discomfort associated with being awake in this awful hotel.

We stayed at the chateau de Jallanges twice including a month ago and we love this place. The building is fabulous. I am sadden by the negative comments posted on this website. Of course this chateau dates hundred of years so do not expect an elevator and yes the staircase is tricky especially if you carry your house with you! But this is a small price to pay for the privilege of staying in a place that will reminds you of the royal chateaux! Each time we have stayed there we were greeted with a glass of bubbly. The owner is charming and loves to tell you about his chateau and so he should be since he has worked on it for the last 25 years or so. If you stay there ask him to see the picture book showing the state of his place when he bouight it in the 80"s. The furniture in the bedrooms is antique as well as in all the rooms downstairs. We love the rooms Renaissance and Henri II. The price is right for that kind of place. The breakfast is nice but if you ask for decaf beware, they will serve you instance decaf. The gardens are wonderful. This is by far one of our favorite place to stay in that part of France!
