“B&B with lovely large pond in the back yard”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2011

Moulin du Fief is near Chateau de Chenonceau and an easy drive to Cheverny. After a day of sightseeing, sitting under a lovely tree by the pond was both relaxing and rejuvenating. Our room was spacious and immaculate and the food was excellent. The owner, Florence, was very helpful in recommending local restaurants. The highlight of our stay was a home-cooked dinner which was also attended by a French couple. Since they spoke no Engllish and we didn't speak French, Florence was translater as well as chef for the evening. A wonderful time was had by all.!

We chose to stay outside the main tourist area of Amboise. Bléré is a small town about 15 minutes from Amboise and Chenonceau. We stayed in an atmospheric and comfortable, 400 year old mill property with a lovely pond and gardens, and a charming hostess/chef. The common areas of Le Moulin are very comfortable and well-stocked.

We were fortunate when our hostess, Mme. Heurtebise, told us that she would be preparing a meal on our second night, and invited us to join her. We enthusiastically accepted and the evening, shared with Florence, another American couple and a French couple, was one of the high points of our trip. Don’t miss her homemade preserves. They are delicious and it can be fun to guess the secret ingredients; often surprising!

From Bléré we visited three chateaux in one day: arrived early at Chenonceau to beat the crowds (it would have been better if we had arrived by 9), then trekked to Chambord, had a quick lunch, and finally arrived at Chaumont sur Loire to visit the old-style castle and see the famous “garden/art.” We got home in plenty of time for the feast described above.

We stayed in Moulin du Fief Gentilfor 3 nights in June 2011. It was the most enjoyable experience. Florence and François, the owners, are just wonderful! Highly recommended.

Our stay here was a highlight in our journey through the Loire Valley, with its very convenient location for easy drives to Amboise, Vouvray, and Chenonceau. Our room was great, and Florence is a wonderful hostess. Fortunately, we were there on a night where she offered a home cooked dinner - complete with lively conversation with Florence and the other guests (one couple from France, and another from San Francisco/USA). Our dinner party began with an appetizer and sparkling Vouvray wine on the patio, and continued into the formal dining room with asparagus in puff pastry, a cheese course, wonderful pork loin with tarragon sauce, mashed potatoes, roasted tomatoes, and it concluded with a kind of strawberry tiramasu for dessert. This is B&B travel at its best - your own comfortable space, as well as the chance to interact with interesting fellow travelers. Florence is also happy to assist with suggestions for local activities after your hearty and delicious breakfast (which just might include a homemade jam with surprising ingredients and flavors).

The location, accommodations, and the host were all first class. We found out about the Mill through a relative who stayed there and double checked reviews on TA. We checked in around 6 and guess what, it was a holiday and nearly everything was closed, including the restaurants. Florence, the host, immediately got on the phone and made a reservation at the only restaurant open in Blere’, Le Petite Beouf. It was an excellent meal. So good we dined there the next night too.

The Mill was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Breakfast and chatting with Florence was a delight. We really enjoyed seeing the chateaus and tooling around the French countryside. Definitely need a gps for gallivanting. Too bad we ran out of time. Would have been nice to picnic or have a glass of wine or two at the pond on the B&B grounds.

All in all a wonderful stay. I would highly recommend this B&B.

This is a beautiful and peaceful authentic Mill which has a lovely large back yard and a small private lake. There are 4 rooms next the main unit and one large suite on the 2nd floor of the main unit.

The location is great and best for star trips in the center Loire Valley region and all its famous Chateaus (Chenonceau, Chinon, Chambord, Cheverny, Amboise, Blois, Loches, etc.). Blere is located 10 minutes driving from Chenonceau (the most recommended Chateau).

We were staying at the Miller's Suite which is lovely, very spacious and have a great view to the charming yard and lake. The room was very aesthetic, nice decorated, highly maintained, very clean and comfortable.

The B&B operated by the nice hostess, Florence (her nice husband works outside and stay at the mill just on weekends), and it seems like she thought about almost everything to fulfill the entire needs of her guests. The continental breakfast is delicious and varied. The hostess is a great cook and it's highly recommended to have a dinner at the house once (need to be reserved in advance. It's recommended to reserve your dinner time to one of the weekend evenings - if possible - for full effect). As well, the hostess is happy to assist you with good tips and recommendation about sights, trips and restaurants this area can offer.
Guests have to take into consideration that this is a B&B and not a hotel. As luxurious as it can be, keep in mind that you are staying at your hosts' house. If you need maximum privacy, you should prefer hotels. I read some of the former reviews and I agree you can somehow feel the hostess' presence a lot, but hey, I'm sure no bad intentions involved. It's her property and she lives there so it makes sense. As I've mentioned before, if you're afraid this matter can spoil your stay, pick a hotel instead.
Another thing to keep in mind, this B&B doesn't suitable for kids and/or pets (at least from my point of view).

More info: Free private parking, no TV (Good), no wired or Wi-Fi internet access (Bad), no telephone. There is a lounge that you can access all the time where you can find: coffee, tea, biscuits and cold beverages for free.

Bottom line: We enjoyed our stay a lot and highly recommend this B&B.

We liked the Moulin du Fief Gentil so much we extended our stay. It was a great base to explore the Loire--just wish we'd had more time. Three days is not enough! The accommodations are spotless, and little things like water bottles are thoughtfully provided. The common space has a small refrigerator with juice and soft drinks, and you can make tea and coffee. The building and grounds are beautiful, and the owners are really helpful. We asked in advance if we could have dinner there, and it was a perfect evening shared with our hosts, some friends of theirs, and another couple who were staying at the Moulin. Dinner was superb, and the view of the waterfall and mill workings made the evening one of our favorite memories in a great trip.
