“Top notch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

Just spent a long weekend at this place and was very impressed. The suite was great (except for the open plan bathroom, but this maybe French contemporary style!) location superb and the jewel in the crown was the restaurant. We had intended to only have 1 dinner there but ended up going back and it was just as good.
Don't understand other reviewers that say service could be better and little English spoken but this was not our experience. The staff were very friendly and efficient and the manager/owner?? was also very polite and helpful and spoke perfect English. It may be that some of the reviewers on this site unreasonably expect the same level of English in rural France as England.
Breakfast was relaxed and the views from the restaurant exquisite, overlooking vineyards.
I would definitely go back there as it is also a good base for travelling around the region and would recommend it to my friends.

Superior room was huge, we had our own terrace outside with table & chairs, nice pool, lovely remote location with far reaching views & food very good. Service not so good which might prevent me staying there longer than a couple of nights. Shame they have the cutlery stand right next to the outdoor tables as the end of our candlelit meal on the terrace was spoilt by waitresses loudly chucking cutlery in the trays right next to us & the tidying up behind us in the restaurant. No-one seemed to be manning the bar day or night?

A little hard to find but what a little gem. We stayed nearby and went there for lunch twice. The views from the restaurant are very beautiful looking out over a vineyard and into the valley. The staff did speak a little English but the food spoke volumes it was very good on both times we went. The price of the food was what you would expect but the wine prices were a little steep. Parking was fine if the car park inside is full then there is room outside.

A great place for a holiday retreat in rural France. Your first impression is of their incredible views from their restaurants and patios. Most interesting variation among rooms caused our group to tour each others rooms during our stay. Wonderful baths and large rooms are key features. Food is excellent at the restaurant and modern amenities throughout.

We spent four nights at the Chateau de Sanse to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Beautiful hotel and setting, conveniently positioned in Entre Deau Mers region of Gironde, adjoining Dordogne. Great for trips to St Emilion, Bergerac, Ste Foy, Duras, etc Staff were very friendly, courteous and helpful. Quality of the hotel was wonderful. Pool was fantastic. Restaurant and food perfect. You can get cheaper but I would rate it as good value for money.
Would certainly recommend and hopefully return.

Room Tip: Rooms 14 & 15 are in the Tower in the photo. We had room 15 at the top which was very nice.

We have planned a great holiday travelling France from Bordeaux to Evian all across worlds best vineyards to finish in evian for some detox.

So i will be sharing our special hotels and experiences all along, more to come thus.

Here we talk about Chateau de Sanse, magnificent environment slightly out of the usual routes and great production of Bordeaux Superieure, we had just spend the 2 previous days in Pessac, then Sauternes.
Hotel is renovated and well worth its 3 stars to French standards, unfortunately service is lousy, team members are comfortable with minimum service. Assistance with luggage ( they actually notice, then you see them hesitate and then they find quickly something to do so they do not have to help, happened both on check in and check out).

We did not eat at dinner but enjoyed breakfast, nothing to write home about, we were a party of 3 rooms and normally breakfast is served in buffet format but as we were the only 3 rooms they decided not to do so. Which was quite funny as we asked for some cold cuts which the lady gladly obliged. we were served the buffet trays at the table, so imagine, ham, cheese and fruits we needed an additional table :)
I understand they do not setup the buffet when not full so no wastage of food. But then you arrange smaller plates. Equally it seem the fruits and all plates were prepared from the previous night.

Front desk staff keeps on poping in to the room and as my friends were english speaking they assumed nobody understood whilst they were requesting croissants and coffee to the waitress to take to the front desk.

Check out was uneventfull.

Regarding the 3 rooms we got all were recently renovated and well kept, bathroom is a bit of a funny modern open concept executed with old sanitary to give you some privacy you have salloon type swingdoors. We slept with the windows open unbelievable fresh air and waking up at 5 am with the birds was a perfect experience.

Overall I find the hotel very attractive hoping the team wakes up and lives up to the location.

In the evening we were invited by Pascal a local bio wine producer, we have had the best evening ever. His Wine is called Jean Faux, his property is still in full development.
We tried 1st the Rose, probably one of the best rose I have ever enjoyed, if you find it try it. It is actually produced out of the 1 fermentation of red wine.
We followed with several red wines ( vertical degustations so each year of the same wine) the whole evening was cordial and relax, Pascal and His wife have welcomed us as if we were family and we had great laughs about the french stories and political mockery. Really french conviviality at its pinnacle. Retain the name Jean Faux, I am sure we will see more in the years coming about this wine.

Room Tip: If more rooms are available ask to visit several ones, some have better views

A friendly welcome, accommodating staff, a fabulous tower room, a wonderful pool after a long hot drive, great views, what else can I say? Glorious. And the restaurant is very good too, though that evening we could have done with less fussy food. That's not a criticism of the cooking, just a reflection of our state of mind that evening.
