“Food made with great care and attention to detail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

This gem offers a lifeline to anyone in search of a place to relax and enjoy great food. Whilst tiring of the umpteenth confit of duck normally on local restaurant menus, la Savie offers an excellent alternative which puts you in touch with something more cosmopolitan. The menu is carefully chosen to cater for both the adventurous and the more traditional palette. We chose the tartare de saumon and a lentil dish as starters, all very satisfying. The herbs (grown by frederic) added a new dimension with subtle flavours we had not encountered before adding a charm to his already delicious cooking. For mains, a very generous tartiflette, a fruit de mer made with a Thai stock and braised ox tail. We were delighted by these dishes. My braised oxtail was robust yet with clear flavours unsullied by the normal over saltiness I associate with such a dish. No attention had been spared by the chef and equally the service was excellent. Then the desert... It is best not to give away the ending of a good story. I hope this will entice you to share our experience! All in all it was a great pleasure to enjoy these wonderful flavours in an intimate ambience made with great care and attention to detail.

“Healthy never tasted so good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

I always search for small farm restaurants in France. What you can expect is honest, local food and an experience of family life. What you find at La Savie is much more. Frederic and Colline use locally sourced (some home grown) products and to create delicious cuisine. Presentation is elegant, but rustic surroundings and friendly yet discreet service dispel any hint of stuffiness. We started with the house aperitif, a white wine flavored with flowers from the gardens just outside the door. Foie gras and other starters were flawless. Fish and meat dishes were delicious. Only two in our group left room for dessert, but the choices were good. Apple tart had to be ordered at start of the meal, and the person who ordered it didn't offer to share a single morsel. The tiramisu was delicate and flavorful. Chef and staff are smiling and helpful. La Savie is definitely off the beaten path, but it's close to Meyrals, St. Cyprien, and Les Eyzies, and it's well worth finding. You will go more than once in support of these young professionals. Reservations (advisable) at 09 83 58 59 15 or online through LaFourchette.com. In our reservation, I said that some of my guests were not fond of the duck and liver dishes so popular in Perigord. When we arrived, our hosts said they had taken that into consideration and put several non-duck options on the menu for our Sunday midday meal. That's personal service!

“Small friendly family run resteraunt with excellent food but very limited menu”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

We visited La Savie in July 2013 and were unfortunately disappointed by the resteraunt having run out of food - all but one of the three main courses on the menu were available. As it transpired, the family were on holiday the following week and whilst the cod main was very good, in hindsight, we feel we should have been told about the single main option when we arrived - or in the hour beforehand when we had called up to book a table. I wondered why the drinks order was taken before we had even seen a menu - a bit below par?? otherwise a seemingly pleasant and peaceful setting with friendly staff - but I don't enjoy being taken for a ride.
