“Good Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2008

The website guaranteed the lowest rate, I couldn't find one lower. Was traveling alone for business and treated myself to a king non-smoking room with a whirlpool. This was really nice....large whirlpool bath (seats 3) in the bedroom....So, I had a glass of wine, watched some television and relaxed in the tub. Hotel was very quiet, and as a Priority Club member I got a free breakfast. With tax, breakfast, and great room, was just under $150 for the night.

This is an older hotel, but well maintained. The only negative was that my heating/cooling unit kept shutting off....It was April, and I didn't need heat, air would have been great, and I got some, but kept having to reset the unit. Given the season it wasn't a big deal and I'm sure if I had said something before checkout they would have given me a different room....Muskegon is a great place to visit and I recommend the hotel highly.

We checked into the hotel yesterday and the staff seemed friendly at the service counter. Then we go to our room, but before going to the room, we decided to go to the pool area. The pool looked like it had not been cleaned in quite sometime and the hot tub was drained of water due to a chemical problem. We then ask about the hot tub and they said that they would be filling it up and that we could use it later that night. Well they filled it, but it was cold water! It never got hot at all. And then we requested extra pillows and a blanket and it took over an hour to get those. Not only that, we had to let them know about it a 2nd time. Overall, it wasn't too terrible, but it was not good especially since we could not use the hot tub.

My husband and I took our three kids to Michigan Adventure nearby. This hotel had nice, clean, spacious rooms. The folks at the desk were helpful and friendly. We felt the service in restaurant was poor, but we may have hit them on a bad day. Overall, I'd say this hotel was above average.

The Holiday Inn in Muskegon is an older hotel. The decor is outdated but well-maintained. It is in town near the water but there is not much around it, overlooking many vacant lots in the area. The room was nice size but the bathroom was really small. The bed was comfortably, firm. The wireless internet worked well. Priority Club members received a coupon for a free appetizer in the evening and free buffet breakfast.

  • Disliked — Bathroom too small

I have stayed at this particular Holiday Inn twice before for the 4th of July fireworks and have loved it. This third time was no exception; the fireworks were great as was our stay. I love that the hotel has a patio area with tables and chairs outside on the 2nd floor. You have a great view of the fireworks from here and can enjoy a nice beverage without the hassle of the vehicle and people traffic below. Our room had a great view of the Summer Celebration festival and a bit of the water by Heritage Landing. The room was clean and greatly decorated as I remember. The air conditioner never seemed to cool the room off, especially since the July heat is a bit fierce at times. It was ok though and no need to complain about it. As a Priority Club member, the Muskegon Holiday Inn offered me complimentary appetizers at the hotel restaurant/bar and also free breakfast which was a very nice surprise! Overall, the staff was polite, the room great and most importantly, our 4th of July experience was fantastic with all that Muskegon has to offer during this holiday season!

  • Liked — I love the location and the great fireworks view.
  • Disliked — the air conditioner should have been colder and cooled the room better.

This is a nice Holiday Inn property. Clean and well kept. It was also quiet. I had a view of the lake, 2 queen beds (matresses a little soft). Staff was polite and professional. The room service staff was great. They have a steakhouse restaurant with decent prices and food. I would stay here again if I was in the area
Only issue, please oil the doors to stop the sqeaking!
