Owner description: Modra spilja (The Blue Cave), located in a small cove of Balun on the island of Biševo. The cave itself is 24 meters long, 10–12 meters deep and up to 15 meters high, while the entrance to it measures 1.5 meters high and 2.5 meters wide.In the year 1884. baron Eugene von Ransonnet described and depicted it. On his suggestion the entrance to the cave has been enlarged, making it this way accessible to the entire world. The cave has two entrances: the smaller one artificially widened and deepened so that the boat could sail through, and the wider one, located at the southern part of the cave – the underwater passage, through which the magical game of the light and water is performed…Depending on the season, the ideal moment to visit the cave is between 9 and 13 o’clock in the morning.

“From sapphire to emeraud”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

I visited Vis Island after visiting the Blue Cave at nearby Bisevo Island with an organised tour from Split. Still amazed by the extraordinary beauty of the Blue Cave, we went to swim and snorkel at a couple of coves in Vis; the first is called Stiniva beach, the last is called the Green Cave and indeed it honors its name; both were lovely. Later, we went to Vis Town, the capital of the island, a small town with ancient stone houses. All in all, a day to be remembered.

There are many tour companies that offer day tours to Bisevo and Vis both from Split and from Trogir.

“From sapphire to turquoise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

I visited the Blue Cave in Bisevo with an organised tour that took us later to Vis Island too. The boat started quite early in the morning from Split boat harbor, in order to reach Bisevo about midday, when the natural illumination of the cave is at its best. On arrival, we left our motorboat and got into small paddle boats that take tourists into the cave. You have to put your head down because the opening is very low, then, when the guide tells you to raise your head, you discover a magic blue world that words can't describe.

There are many tour companies offering day tours to Bisevo and Vis, both from Split and from Trogir.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

We knew that the Blue cave will be blue of course, but this was sooo amazing color! It was a nice experience to see the cave and take a swimm there. You can also dive from inside of the cave out! We have some amazing underwater videos and photos from Blue cave, don't forget your camera!

“The cave is great, the beech is better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

Great to set foot on the sand and swim in the sea. The boat ride is however very quick and the old boats are a little choppy so pack your sea legs. Overall - Nice, nice, nice.

“Blue cave by the dinghy (from the yacht)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

During october the best colours are between 10 - 12am. During high season - between 9-11am as I've been said. Inside there is absolutely outstanding view, it should be visited! But be careful when you go to cave by dinghy, because it could be entered only at VERY CALM weather, without any waves, that's important! We tried to go inside when it was a little bit wavy, and going back with dinghy was one of experiences in my life I could easily live without. With waves entrance sometimes becomes not more than 0,4 m high (comparing to 1,2 m high of dinghy with people), so if you are valuing your life and health, just wait for the good (calm) weather to visit it.
