Owner description: Modra spilja (The Blue Cave), located in a small cove of Balun on the island of Biševo. The cave itself is 24 meters long, 10–12 meters deep and up to 15 meters high, while the entrance to it measures 1.5 meters high and 2.5 meters wide.In the year 1884. baron Eugene von Ransonnet described and depicted it. On his suggestion the entrance to the cave has been enlarged, making it this way accessible to the entire world. The cave has two entrances: the smaller one artificially widened and deepened so that the boat could sail through, and the wider one, located at the southern part of the cave – the underwater passage, through which the magical game of the light and water is performed…Depending on the season, the ideal moment to visit the cave is between 9 and 13 o’clock in the morning.

“The most beautiful BLUE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

A must when in Vis. We took a tour with the local agency Alternatura, which included visit to the cave and a day at Porat beach at Bisevo. I would advise to take early morning boats, since during the day you might end up waiting to get on the boat to the cave. They have limited number of boats that go to the cave, and in general this could have been better organized by the organizations that administers the cave visits. However, we were lucky and did not have to wait, but just changed the boats and visited the cave. The visit lasts some 10 minutes and once in you experience the most beautiful blue color ever. Unfortunately it is forbidden to swim or dive in the cave, but all you wanna do is jump in the lovely sea. The visit to the cave is 40 kunas, cca 5 EUR.

“Blue cave blues”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

The brilliant blue of the waters in Blue Cave make up for its lack in size. Great photo opportunities. We paid 40 kuna to go with local tour boats - quite a queue and wait (about 1 hour) for our turn and 5 minutes or so to get to the cave, then a few more minutes as the captain lines the boat up and waits to 'ride' a wave into the cave. The day we visited many yachts were anchored outside Blue Cave and 20 or of their small tenders were also attempting to enter and visit (I'm not sure if every day is like this?). Like bobolawwe says the Blue Cave is was very poorly managed, we had to make a few attempts to enter as a number of these small boats would appear in the entrance racing out of the cave just as we were about to enter, the cave was crowded with boats all bumping into one another and a number of people were diving and swimming inside the cave. That said well worth a visit.

“beautiful experience”

I certainly recommend if you find yourself on the island of Vis, Croatia. A trip can last all day or less. There are excursions on old sailing ships.

“very blue indeed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

This place is a must. Much better than other blue grottas i have seeen (like the one on Corfu). Make sure you take the speed boat from Kamiza and go to spend the rest of the day on the sandy beach in Porat just 10 minutes away from the cave.

“Worth to be visited”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2012

Short but fantastic trip. Nice way to spend the half of day, the price is from 120 to 140 kunas. Choose calm sea, because in case of waves it is uncomfortable to sail there
