“The paradise hotel!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2011

We stayed here in June for a whole week, and we felt @ home from the minute we stepped inside! It's the best place to stay when you visit Léon! Nice, clean rooms, great freshly prepared food, and most of all,the owners! Sévérine and Mike are the best!!
They will help you with anything :-) And then ther's Livia their little girl, who will entertain you as soon as you make friends with her :-)
Just want to say once more : I've never felt more at home then during my stay at Hostal Mariposa!!!

After our trip in Costa Rica, we travelled over to Léon for another 9 nights. During those 9 nights we stayed at Hostal Mariposa.

It was a wonderful stay! From the first moment we were welcomed in a very friendly way by the French owners and felt at home.

We stayed in the small bungalows, they were cosy and very clean! Every room has it own rainshower outside! It's very nice to take a shower outside.

Besides that there is a nice and large pool, some tables and chairs and hammacks outside. You can stay the entire day in the hostal without being bored. Because you can have a variety of breakfasts, lunch and drinks. A tip: Flor de Cana, the local Rhum!

The location is just outside of Léon and is easy accesible with bus our cab. It's also on the road towards the beach which is a 15 min drive with a cab.

There is also free Wifi, which is very nice to stay in touch with the homefront!

If you would traval to Léon, you just have to go to Hostal Miraposa! I am coming back for sure! Nicaragua is a super country!

Severine and Mike run a top-class hostal in quiet gardens a short bus ride from Leon centre. With a pool, great menu and bar and designer thatched cabins with classy open-air showers, it's easy to totally relax. Perfect for couples and families.

Our stay in Hostal Mariposa this year was exactly what we were looking for. We were there for two nights -- long enough to explore Leon and get to volcano boarding. Leon was our first stop in Nicaragua, and Mariposa's taxi driver/friend Emerson waited for us at the airport and gave us a great introduction to the country. Mariposa is a bit out of the city. We were initially worried about this, but in hindsight, it was probably a much better choice given that the hostel really provided us with some peace, quiet and clean that you couldn't always find in Leon. Getting into town was simple enough: taxis run about 20 cordobas/person and are easy to catch along the road. The owner, Severine and her family were friendly and helpful, giving us a lift into town or helping to arrange transportation to our next stop in Granada. The beds were comfy, the food was tasty, and everything was just right!

This is a wonderful small hotel. The owners are super friendly and extremely accommodating. This was the start of our trip and we loved having a comfortable place with a pool for our 6 year old son to retreat to after exploring Leon. The food was really good, the room was spotless and very comfortable and the bus into town is so easy. We took it in every day (like a 7 minute ride) and then at night we took a $2.5 cab ride home. Our family highly recommends it!

If you are looking for a hostel that doesn't reek of body oder and drunk backpackers you must consider Hostal Mariposa. One of the owners Serevine was easy to communicate with through email to book our stay. We arrived in Managua to get picked up by one of their taxi drivers Emerson who was very pleasant and informative about the country. The price is just right and the accommodations felt like home. I loved waking up in the morning laying on their comfortable hammocks to snuggle up to a book. They had a great simple menu of breakfast items to choose from and they cook it right in their semi-outdoor kitchen.

It was also a nice treat to have outdoor dining, swimming pool and a lush garden of tropical flowers. This place offered affordable rates, transportation to the city, cleanliness and a great staff! I will definitley be coming back again!

Clustered around a full pool are half a dozen palapa-style cabanas with modern euro-inspired showers open to the sky all set within a wonderfully tropical walled garden. The young family that renovated this spot on the outer edge of Leon did so with flair and grace. If you just want a quiet few days of relaxation by the pool with a full menu to choose from when hunger strikes, it wouldn't be a bad place to hang out. But Leon beacons not more than a five minute drive and the beach is maybe twenty minutes in the other direction.
