We came to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan looking for the opportunity to photograph fall color. We chose to stay at the Timber Ridge Motel and Lodge because of its location in the Hiawatha National Forest and its proximity to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. We found Timber Ridge to be a very secluded, peaceful spot and a great value.
Our room was actually more like a suite. The first room had a sofa and TV, along with a kitchen table and microwave, refrigerator, coffeemaker and sink. The second room, the bedroom, had a bath off to the side and had access to a private balcony that overlooked Hovey Lake.
We used Timber Ridge as our home base for a week of exploring and photographing the U.P. The location offered wonderful opportunities for photographing right out the door at Hovey Lake and the drive along Buckhorn Rd toward Munising offered views of spectacular fall color.
Timber Ridge is not fancy, but it is very clean, comfortable and quiet. We were able to make breakfast in our room each morning before heading out to explore and photograph this beautiful and unique area. Each evening, after a full day, we returned to enjoy a restful sleep.
We would definitely stay here again.
