“Beautiful City”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

Bhaktapur Durbar Sq is the oldest and most ancient of the three Durbar squares in Kathmandu. It feels much quieter than the other two with more locals going about their daily lives.
there were paintings galore - really pretty ones. you can also go visit a painting school to see how the Buddhist paintings are made. plus you might even get to watch painters capturing the square on their canvas. a place to just walk around and soak in the atmosphere.

“An excellent day out.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

We had a guide for the time we were here and it was well worth it as he showed us things which weren't mentioned in our guide book, and took us down little paths and streets which we might otherwise not have found. This medieval city is well preserved and gives a real flavour of the old Nepal. It feels calm and peaceful there and the wooden carving is very elaborate. Worth a try is the juju dhua a delicious curd/yoghurt served in a throwaway terracotta dish. This place is a must on your itinerary.

“The most ancient of looking of the 3 Durbar squares but also the most expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

Bhaktapur Durbar Sq is the oldest and most ancient of the three Durbar squares in Kathmandu. It feels much quieter than the other two with more locals going about their daily lives. The only set back is they charge 1100rps per person where are Patan is 550 and KTM 750rps. The other thing is they charge another 100rps to get into the museum of art which is not that interesting. If you go on a Tuesday the museum is shut but you can go in the 55 windows palace. I did not go on a Tuesday so I cannot say what its like inside.. The last thing you must do in Bhaktapur is try the curd or natural yogurt, It comes in a flat clay bowl and is wonderfully creamy on top and slightly sour underneath. If you visit in August check to see if Gai Jatra festival when the gods and goddess come out to dance..

“Historic Nepal intact”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

This is "ancient Nepal" preserved with care for us to see and relish. For historic minded, it can be a 1 full day tour. For others, 1/2 a day is enough. As usual, 1,000/- NRs is the entrance fee. The place ( slightly 1 sq km) portrays how an ancient Nepalese royal town looks like. Even the pathways are red brickwork made. No modern roads! A good restaurant with reasonable pricing is in the area. Generally one is free to roam around without touts harassment. Foreigners must not miss this place if they intend to experience a slice of Nepalese history that is still made available. One can go there by hiring a taxi for NRs 600/- one way. R.
