Readin the earlier reviews I was a bit concerned, but they just got done with a remodel of this hotel. Nothing we saw looked dated, except for the rather 1970's fireplace off the lobby that was kinda charming in a sort of Brady's era way. This is an updated, well maintained property, just off US-10 at the Eastman Exit. It is according to the staff about 45 years old, but is charming and not beat down.
The property itself has a unique zig-zag layout. Make sure if you are with a group to ask that your room be in the same general area as your group or you might be in for a long walk.
The property is about 45 years old, but has been recently updated. This was more than just fresh carpets. The rooms have new walpaper, tiles in the bathrooms, furniture and so on.
We were in a king room. The first thing that impressed me was that they wrap the blanket on both sides with a sheet. That makes me feel that the place is clean. There were 4 pollows that were neatly stood up on an angle when we got there. The bed was great, so they mush have replaced the mattress in our room since those other reviews. There was also a hide-a-bed in our room, in case we needed some more beds for an extra guest (we did not, but nice to know it was there.) There was also room enough for an easy chair. There was a fridge and microwave and all the other features that you would expect in a more upscale place. The important point was this was not at a premium price. IMHO it was not that much more than a budget motel for the area.
There was one issue with our room. The drains were a bit slow. I pointed this out to the lobby clerk on checkout. The only other picky point is that I wondered why there was not a trash can in the main part of the room. There was one in the bathroom area. Like many hotels the rooms were a bit dim on lighting, but not so much that it bothered us. The bathroof was spotless, even in the grout / caulk corners.
The one thing that I can say was terrific about it was the service. I am going out on a limb to say that the people who work here "gush". About the only place I can say that has hotels workers who as a broadbrush statement gush to customers is at Disneyworld. Everyone I spoke to there including the cleaning lady gushed. I kind of wanted that guy from TV that reviews and saves hotels to do a walk-through of this as a good example of what other places should be like. For those that read my reviews I tend to be a bit hard in my critiques. This place though rocked. If the past review said the person at the front was rude or not caring then they were not there when we were. Check in was fast, check out was smooth and friendly. When I mentioned that the drain was sluggish the clerk wrote it down, versus prepending to listen then ignoring the comment. Maybe they replaced the front desk clerks with the mattresses? LOL
This morning we managed to get a little pool time before checking out. The pool area is open to the room that are adjacent to it. If you do not have little kids that will be in the pool constantly do not stay in these rooms, as the noise level with even a few people in the pool area was very loud. It was like a Holidome. the pool is very shallow. Only about 4 feet in the center, with sides 2-1/2 feet deep. There was a hot tub and sauna. About the only thing that I can be critical on in that the area immediately adjacent to the hot tub needed cleaning. There was mildew or mold on the bottom of glass door walls adjacent to this hot tub. Many of those doors had spaces at the bottom where the mainteinace staff failed to replace the weather strip (they apparently were recently worked on). Those need attending. The surface around the hot tub needed cleaning, as there appaently were a lot of people in over the weekend. That should be a constant attention point for maintenance versus once a day.
Oh, there was a problem with the ice machine in our area of the hotel, requiring me to walk to the lobby. I was told I could get ice in the bar after what seemed like a sincere apology. I went to the bar and waited for about 3 or 4 minutes. The bartender was getting a huge stack of pizzas from the kitchen, and apparently had to deliver these to a room.. She looked kinda frazzled and did not smile when she said she would be right back, and had to get the ice for me from the back. (The only person now that I think of it who didn't gush at me asa customer) I thanked her but realized it would be several more minutes, so I went to the next ice machine. Maybe they need a 2nd bar person on Saturday nights? Seems like they would have lost some orders making the bartender do that running around.
For those with little kids there was a tube like play structure next to the pool room, similar to the ones in Burger King and McDonalds.
We did not eat in the restaurant, but there was a Sunday buffet set up for $7.50 (excluding your drink). There is also a lounge.
Parking is easy. Plenty of spaces.
All in all I would easily stay here again. (now that I have gushed I hope they do not jack the prices LOL)
If you do not have little kids, do not get a room adjacent to the pool as it is too loud. If you ar...
