What a fun family activity. The staff are very nice and funny. It was nice they had a playground for kids while waiting for your turn.

“Fun time and not too scary”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

Mac Wood's is a good all-around tour of the Silver Lake dunes. Worth the trip up from Saugatuck. If you are hesitant because of little ones or older grandparents, don't be. The truck never goes too fast and doesn't take the dune tops or turns too fast.
If you are looking for a thrill ride, you might want to try renting your own buggy from one of the other businesses in the area.
The driver we had presented a fairly amusing accounting of the history, ecology, and other information of the dunes.

“Unique and fun experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

My family and I were visiting Michigan for a week and wanted something unique and fun our whole family. We have four kids ranging from 18 mo to 9 yrs and they all loved it. The youngest was a little nervous a few times but for the most part he enjoyed it. The rides run continuously throughout the day (see website for hours) and you don't need to make a reservation, just show up. Everyone rides in a huge Dune Buggee and the guide takes you up and down and around some huge sand dunes, the thrill is equivalent to a mild roller coaster. (Which was plenty enough for the kids) The guide stops at a few places to give you some interesting facts about the area and our guide even cracked some corny jokes that got the kids giggling. The ride lasted about 45 minutes. It was pretty chilly on the day we went, I'd recommend going on a day in the mid 70's to low 80's but all in all we were so happy to have found out about this attraction, and will be coming back every time we visit. By the way, right next door is a fabulous little Whippy Dip ice-cream and food place. We were ready for lunch by the time the dune ride was finished and the Whippy Dip had plenty of choices for food and a treat after. Not to mention a really nice play area for the kids to burn some energy on after they finish eating.

“Great time and worth every penny”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

Just got back from a trip to the Silver Lake area. I heard good things about the Mac Woods dune rides so we went on a beautiful Thursday night. Our guide, Bob, was entertaining and friendly. It was nice to let someone else drive the dunes while we enjoyed the scenery and narration. I left my youngest (who gets motion sickness easily), age 8, back at the campground with grandma and took my two teenagers. There were several younger kids (under 9) on our ride, so it is okay for the younger ones. I just didn't want to risk it. I guarantee you will have a great time!

“Great fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

Wanted to try this before renting a jeep. Bruce, our driver, had a great personality for the job. Lots of stops with information, so not 40 minutes of non-stop dunes riding. Kids loved it.
