I have been a resident of Michigan for all of my life. That being said I can count the number of times I have been north of the bridge on one hand. The wife and I, being big craft beer fans, were taking a trek to Marquette for the MI beer festival that is held here every year. Got in town the night before and needed a place for dinner. Not really having an idea of what was around we kind of went wandering through town which is usually a recipe for disaster but this time it turned out awesome.
We stumbled across this place and decided to give it a try as we were hungry. We entered by the "back door" which was off the main drag. You go down a set of steps which makes you feel like you are enteering a speaksasy. At the bottom of the steps we wondered if we were in the right place as there were just two doors. We chose the one on the right and it opened into a packed bustling restaurant reminiscent of NOLA. We made our way to the hostess stand and were promptly greeted and put on the waiting list for a table. Grabbed a drink at the bar and settled in for the wait.
We were seated in the promised amount of time and given menus. The menu was huge but not to the point of overwhelming proportions. The waitress arrived quickly and told us a bit about the menu and made sure we were OK with drinks. We chose our meals and ordered. Food arrived and was some of the best we ever had outside of NO. Some restaurants offer this type of fare and fail miserably but these guys obviously have it down. I had the seafood risotto and the wife had shrimp and grits. Both were phenomenal. No room for dessert. The waitress was quick and attentive. Never went in need of water or drinks. Also thought the hot sauce tasting bar was a neat idea. Would definitely return and recommend to others.
