This might be a shot in my own foot if the pompous and arrogant in the area tend to agree and decide to go here, but this is a preferable place to enjoy a light meal, a quiet cup of coffee or an espresso in the Washington St./Third St. area of the city. It has been recently remodeled with a lighter decor and a gas fireplace is installed in the small upper area near the back. Looks and feels much better than it used to be although we had no complaints about the older decor.
Unlike the good ol' boys dark cramped place on Washington St., as you enter you can clearly see what is being offered in the way of wraps, bagels, spreads, deli items, beverages and bakery products. The people who are waiting to order are not hovering over those who have their purchase and want to eat without someone brushing against their backs. Also, for those who want to dominate a space, there is a bar or counter along the front window so you take up a smaller area to work with your mobiles. So, when you go to through the door you go toward the left for the food or go to the right to claim a table.
In addition to espresso drinks they also have two or three thermoses of different coffee blends. Some of these can be very dark and strong but you can always ask for a sample taste if you are unsure. If you are on the go and do not want to go in to order and wait then call in your order ahead of time and when you get to the drive up window it will be ready for you.
The contact information and menu items are on their web site (www.thirdstbagel.com).
