“Dog Friendly!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2010

After one night at a "Cedar Auto Lodge" cabin which was not at all cabin like (duplex with thin walls) 50 feet from one of the busiest 4 lanes in the region, we looked around and luckily (Homecoming weekend) got a room at Super 8. I am sensitive to noise and because we took a room on the opposite side of the 4 lane it was plenty quiet enough.

Overall, this was a good place. Close to a large food store and the highway (but not too close!)

Room was in good shape; breakfast was OK too

This is the second year in a row that we have stayed here for a night during Christmas week, visiting family in the area. The motel is fine—clean, and staff are friendly. Don’t expect anything more than basic amenities in the room—a working TV, a clean bathroom etc. The breakfast is fine, with a good selection of items as well as tea and coffee 24 hours a day. The pool, hot tub and sauna area is very nice for a motel of this class—this is why we returned this year.

We spent one night at the Super 8 in Marquette. We requested adjoining rooms, and were happy that although we didn’t check in until almost 8:00, they honored our request. The hotel was a pretty typical Super 8. The rooms were clean and appeared to have relatively new carpeting. All furnishings were in good working order. The hotel has interior hallways. We had rooms on the second floor and had no problems with noise. Breakfast consisted of juices, apples, toast, bagels, waffles, French toast (all prepared in a toaster), the appropriate toppings, and cereals. The staff was pleasant, and both check-in and check-out were quick and easy. The free wireless worked fine. There was a pool and hot tub, but no exercise room. Overall we were happy with the Super 8.

.....ok, so the $57 per night price should have told us something. At first glance, the hotel looks nice enough and the front desk staff was quite friendly and helpful, but it's more the things you don't notice until it's a little too late.

We happened to be on the first floor, and it was rather amazing that you could hear every foot step on the second floor with such clarity! The best we could figure is that the floor construction added this hard to describe squeek to each foot step. Now, this isn't so much of a problem if the folks above you go to bed and awaken at the same time you do. In our case, the guests upstairs were particularly active between the hours of 2-4 AM.

The echoy (if that's a real word) hallways made it easy to hear all the folks returning just after bar closing time. Of course, they never seem to sneak back into their rooms, right?

After all of this, there were the early departures of traveling motorcyclists. The people riding Hondas simply started up their quiet bikes and snuck away without notice, but the Harley riders........well, I think you know what I'm sayin'. Those darn bikes always seem to require about a half dozen revs of the engine prior to actually moving forward.

I will say that I slept through all of the noise except for the Harleys. My wife on the other hand, didn't sleep much at all, even with ear plugs. At one point in the evening, she actually went out to try and sleep in the car, which was plenty quiet, but rather cool-ish, so she eventually came back in to the noise chamber.

In summary, if you can sleep through anything, enjoy the low prices. If you can't, try another place.

"Adequate" is the word that comes to mind. The hotel was fine, but nothing special. The property was clearly an old motel/motor inn that Super 8 had purchased and renovated. Although the facility was generally clean and comfortable, its age showed in the build-up of grime around light switches and fixtures, and the overall layout of the place. The pool, though small, was clean and the kids loved it. The staff were helpful and courteous. The motel is next door to a restaurant and just a short walk from a large grocery store. The breakfast is decent but heavy on sugar and white flour. While I really don't have anything negative to say, given the number of lodging options in Marquette, next time I'll look for a newer facility or one that is closer to downtown.
