“Great Location in Mackinaw City, good winter rates”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2011

We stayed here for a winter get away and a trip to the Casino in St. Ignace. The hotel couldn't get any closer to the bridge, it's a great location. The winter rates were good...but I don't think I'd be happy with the hotel had I paid a lot higher rate in the summer.
We stayed in a jacuzzi suite room. It was nice and clean, and a decent sized room. It could really use some updates though, the tv was the old tube style tv. The remote had tape on the back to hold the batteries in.
Breakfast was nice, although crowded. The eggs were terrible, not real eggs for sure, or anything I'd like to try again. The cinnamon rolls and coffee were great though.
Besides it being in need of some TLC, not a bad stay overall, and I'd stay again, if the rates were right.

Left a negative review of this hotel in September 2010, it some how was removed. Not by me. I hope TA is not removing negative ads at the request of the establishments. It defeats the purpose of this website. Lets see where this one goes now.

Made reservation and was informed the hotel was newly renovated. Upon checking in, the front desk was good, we received our room key and went to the non smoking room.
Entered the room and it was over whelming of cig smoke and the room was out dated and not renovated at all. The room reminded me of the 1970's. Big square TV, out dated clock and furniture.
Went back to the front desk and they were very sorry for the room and gave us our money back as requested.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2010

We needed a halfway point for a Josh Turner concert in Escanaba. We are from Grand Rapids and wanted to stay the night before and the night after the concert. It worked out very well. Things are pretty quiet in Mackinaw in November and we got treated like we were the only ones in the hotel. I think they said their were 39 of the 110 or so rooms full. Sabrina was expecting us when we walked in and she was an genuinely friendly caring woman who took the time to explain where the best pizza was to be found and a place to play some pool and relax. The girls enjoyed the pool and hot tub and sauna after.
The next morning Mary Anne served us an unbelievable FREE breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausage, toast and pastries, yogurt, fruit, anything you would want to drink that early in the day and more! Amazing cinnamon rolls too! Skip, the manager, was nice to chat with and obviously runs a calm and organized hotel. I got the feeling he knew what he was doing :] Even the young woman taking care of our room was a sweetheart. We had the suite which is very spacious and luxurious - not the plaza, but we don't want the plaza or it's pricetag. This was very comfortable with everything we could want. Looked brand new except for those "old" tv's. Pretty nice old tv's. Anyway, the beds were very comfortable, very nice linens, bath towels were very thick and soft, could even see the bridge from the balcony although they had said they could not promise it. (No leaves on the trees to block the view) So, we felt quite spoiled by it all and felt very welcome in Mackinaw city as travelers. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip North. Thanks to all of you, from taking our reservation on the phone to when we checked out. We appreciate your kindness.

I mainly chose to stay here because of a discounted rate, due to visiting Mackinaw City during the off-season. I was pleasantly surprised with the staff and look of the main floor when I checked in.

The room itself was roomy and the beds were comfy. The main gripes I have with the room have to do with the electronics and heater. The TV, alarm clock, phones and HVAC looked really old compared to most hotels. The TV especially looked ancient compared to most hotels, even budget ones, converting to flat screens or at least higher quality units. I also noticed scale on the shower head and some cleanliness issues with the balcony. Overall though the room was clean and tidy. I also enjoyed the view of the bridge from the balcony.

The free breakfast was well stocked and had a variety of choices but my girlfriend and I were shocked that there was no fruit of any kind offered. It doesn't seem like too much to ask to put out a few apples and bananas.

If the price was right again I would stay here due to its proximity to the downtown area and above average accommodations.

This was the halfway point between our travel for the long Easter weekend. We have an 8 year old and 13 year old. Room was in good condition, staff was accomodating and the breakfast was good too.

Did a bus tour with about 80 people. The entire staff - from check in, bags in room, room quality, water pressure, breakfast and breakfast staff - not to be beaten. The director - whose card I requested- Skip Long - sets a friendly outgoing pace with staff and travelers. I did not witness and slacking and everyone working - worked with a smile and a true helpful attitude. Kudos to this hotel!

This was our last night on our Lake Superior Circle Tour headed back to Grand Rapids, MI.
We had used some of our Priority Club points so only paid $60 for the room which made it a great deal. The desk staff people were very helpful and professional. However it was very noticeable that the hotel needed some maintenance. The thermostat in our room was not working so we used the ceiling fan. The bathroom was clean but the caulking around the shower was mildewed and needed replaced. Some of the facade on the outside was crumbling as well as the mortar between flagstones on the approach to the side door.
Over all it was a comfortable night's stay.

The breakfast was good but some trays would have been nice to take it back to our room as the breakfast room was packed.
