Owner description: Sail the Straits of Mackinac! Sixteen historic lighthouses lie within easy cruising distance of Mackinaw City. Travel in comfort and safety on Shepler's spacious vessels during these fascinating tours. For close to three centuries, the Straits of Mackinac has been a vital nautical thoroughfare, providing passage between Lakes Huron and Michigan. But traveling its famed blue waters has not come without risk. Over the many decades, lighthouses were built to protect mariners from dangerous shoals and reefs. Each has a story to tell. Shepler's exclusive Lighthouse Cruises are voyages of discovery. Guests are treated to awe-inspiring views and the fascinating history surrounding these Great Lakes guardians.

“Pricier than other options, but fast and safe.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2014

Chose this option because it was fast and offered more frequent trips and later return trips from the Island back to the mainland.

“Great tourist attraction”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

If you are interested in great lakes lighthouses, this is the trip for you. But be aware, you are out in the open lakes which can be very windy and rough. Dress accordingly. Summer weather temperatures in northern Michigan are cooler than the rest of the state, especially when you are on or near the water. Sheplers does a great job with this tour being hosted and narrated by the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association. They do a great job also.

“Quick ride”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2014

This was a quick ride to Mackinac Island. Boat was clean and cast friendly. The lines were long though. Get there early so that you don't have to wait another 1/2 hour.

Thank you for the review, but we think this might be on the wrong page. We have two pages, one for the Ferry to Mackinac Island and one for our Lighthouse Cruises. This page is designated for our narrated Lighthouse Cruises. Each of these cruises is 3-5 hours in length and narrated by the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association. We take you to see at least 5 lighthouses and you will learn about the history of the area and the history behind each lighthouse. They depart from and return to Mackinaw City. On your next trip, try to check one out - they're a lot of fun!

“Lighthouses 101”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

Excellent commentary on how various lighthouses were built; the history of the individual lighthouses(one was used as a bombing target in WWII) and how The Lighthouse Association goes about it's remarkable job of maintaining these structures.
