My Mom and I have been coming to the island for over 15 years every July.
We used to stay at Lilac Tree but it became run down and not maintained. We have been staying at Main Street Inn since they opened and it is the BEST. We stay for 8 nights and love it, just love it.
Everyone is friendly and knowledgable which is a plus.
We will see you again in July 2008.

We have visited Mackinac Island before about 4 years ago. At that time we stayed at Mission Point. It was an okay place to stay, but it was not over the top and we wanted to try someplace else. We first looked into travelocity and expedia to see what was available for our dates. In October some of the Hotels have started to close for the season, so it was important to find out who was available. We came up with about 5 Hotels, then I went as I always do to Trip Advisor. I read all the reviews and Main street looked great, so we booked the two bedroom suite and another standard room for a week. I can't tell you how accurate Trip advisor was. We will only stay here in the future. It is so lovely, clean, and the staff is so friendly. The decor in the rooms are so well done. Their decorator should be commended. It is so nice being downtown as opposed to being further out at Mission Point. The room decor in Mission Point is not as nice and comfy as Main street. The beds and pillows are so comfortable. We love the place.

We stayed here for 2 nights in September and were very pleased. The location is excellent right on Main Street very close to the ferry dock. The rooms were very clean and colorfully decorated. We had a suite on the 2nd floor with a balcony overlooking Main Street. Only drawback was that the second bedroom lacked any privacy. To get from the door or back bedroom to the bathroom or front room, you had to go right through the other bedroom. Other than that, though, I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again. The staff was very helpful, and the fudge at night a delicious treat.

  • Liked — Location and the balcony overlooking Main Street
  • Disliked — Open 2nd bedroom with no privacy

The room we stayed in was quite beautiful. The decor was bright & colorful, and it was very clean. It had the ironing board, hair dryer, coffee maker... We paid $150 per night (that's with all the taxes & other stuff that gets added on) and felt like that was quite a bargain, especially after touring the famous Grand Hotel and noticing how run down & tacky it was, and their staff seemed obnoxious. Our room at the Main Street Inn & Suites looked and felt better than what I saw at the Grand Hotel, and it's location is excellent. Take Shepler's ferry over, and you only have to walk about 1/4 block to the hotel. The staff was FRIENDLY and the lobby smelled lovely--fresh fragrant flowers, and our room smelled nice every time we entered it. I was quite impressed. AND they left a 2 inch square sample of fudge in the room each night.

  • Liked — clean & pretty & classy
  • Disliked — room was long, but narrow

This was not only the first time that we stayed at the Main Street Inn & Suites, but also the first time that we have visited Mackinac Island, and we can't say enough about our experiences with both of them. The Inn was the epitome of loveliness, starting from the lobby area, and our rooms were so carefully and wonderfully decorated that we almost felt the warm embrace of the Island contained within the Inn. Main Street Inn & Suites has a wonderful practice of leaving the doors open to the various rooms and suites until each guest arrives to claim their particular room, so we had the opportunity to visit quite a few of these rooms. Each room was lovelier than the next. Every room and suite that we saw was beautiful. Hats off to the person who designed and decorated all of these wonderful rooms. You could tell that this person painstakingly and thoughtfully added every precious little detail to make a guest feel comfortable. A previous guest and contributor to this website mentioned that the room was as nice in reality as the pictures on the Inn's website. I would have to go a step further in saying that the reality actually EXCEEDED both the pictures on their website, as well as the pictures in their brochure. You will definitely get your money's worth at this charming and lovely Inn, especially with the great off-season rates.

Kudos to the staff at the Main Street Inn & Suites -- from the lovely and professional ladies at the front desk to the housekeeping staff, and especially to Archie, who expeditiously got our luggage back and forth from the ferry dock to our rooms without a hitch. We sincerely appreciated everyone's help during our stay.

We have traveled to several islands in recent years, including Bermuda, the Bahamas and several islands in the Caribbean, and in our humble opinion, Mackinac Island certainly deserves its reputation as one of the "world's top 10 most beautiful islands." It was a real treat to get off of the everyday treadmill of life and avoid the hustle and bustle (as well as the stress!) of having to deal with automobiles. We definitely plan to return to both Mackinac Island and the Main Street Inn & Suites. You simply can't go wrong in making this your vacation destination.

This was our first visit to the Main Street Inn, but not our first visit to Mackinac Island. Our room was as nice in reality as the pictures on the Inn's website. I think that says something as so many times the pictures do not reflect what I've found once I check-in. The rooms here are nicely appointed and well-maintained.
Our luggage made it onto the ferry before we did, but when we got to the island on a later ferry, the dock porter had already made sure all our bags were waiting at the hotel. Everything in the room was spotlessly clean, the towels were nice and thick, and all the appliances worked flawlessly. Each evening there was turn-down service and a sample of Joann's fudge was left. The game room has a billiards table, an assortment of board games plus a cable-equipped TV. The bike storage area in the basement is well lighted and clean. When we checked-out, the staff cheerfully held our luggage until we were ready to depart on the ferry, and they would have taken it to the ferry for us if we had desired that service.
Main Street Inn and Suites is in an excellent location as it is close to two of the ferry lines and is in the heart of the main restaurant and shopping area on the island. This was especially appreciated as we had two days with rainy mornings while we were there.
We were very happy with our stay and will opt for this hotel again on our next visit.

Very nice hotel. We stayed 3 nights, 2 in an inside room with a skylight, the last night in a room with a window. The room with a window was slightly more and a little bigger.

I think I would have liked the larger room better if the interior decorating had been a bit more subdued. It was okay, but a bit bright. I actually, to my surprise, really liked the interior room with the skylight better. I was somewhat hesitant about it as I've never stayed in a room without a window. However, it was quite nice. Should I go back, I would definitely request an interior room. There are rooms with balconies overlooking Main Street, but I don't think there were any of those available when we booked.

There is a lounge area on the second floor with a couple of nice couches/loveseats and a pool table. If I'm not mistaken, there is also a tv there.

There was some problem with wireless internet. My husband had to call the desk a couple of times to have it rebooted. The plug in worked, but we had two laptops, one wireless and one not.

The fudge sample every day was a nice touch. It was excellent!

  • Liked — comfortable bed, nice bath
  • Disliked — wireless internet didn't always work well
