“I just loved that place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

I recently stayed at the Stone Cliff Inn for a week but only wish I could have stayed longer.

The Inn is situated about a 20 minute buggy ride away from the hustle and bustle of main street. I so enjoyed the peaceful quieter setting than down town. Shuttle service is prompt hourly.

Breakfast is taken in a very pleasant room overlooking a simply stunning back garden or you may enjoy it on the patio.

The room was clean, well aired and comfortable. The staff were also very friendly to me at all times.

The nearby trails in surrounding woods are beautiful and skirted with all kind of wild flowers and the occasional glimpses of the lake were just breath taking.

It was an allover pleasant experience and hope to return some day.

The inn is situated on beautiful acreage in a quiet area of the island. It is a very nice respite from the crowds of the village. Although we had to ask for more bath soap ,house-keeping didn't empty the trash from the previous guests and a light-bulb needed to be replaced, the front desk was very apologetic and responded quickly to our concerns. Our room, the Woodcastle in the manor, was spacious, quiet and offered a lovely view of the grounds of the estate. We enjoyed cocktails on the veranda in the afternoon. Dining at the Inn was okay. Breakfast and dinner entrees were generous but not outstanding cuisine. We chose to rent the one-gear bikes for the day instead of carriage rides. The carriage rides were very nice but just too slow. We were able to cover alot of ground on the bikes without the inconvenience of stepping in the landmines left behind by the horses. I would suggest walking out to watch the dramatic sunset over Lake Huron...either at the vista on the premises or from the golf course. For the best view in town for lunch...eat on the outdoor veranda at Fort MackinacTea Room. The Grand Hotel, I believe, runs the kitchen. For dinner, an excellent restaurant and view is the Carriage House at the Iroquois Hotel.

Room Tip: The Woodcastle Room in the manor is very spacious and has a lovely view of the estate.

This was our first stay here, although we have been to Mackinac Island many times; we will definitely be back. Staying on the bluffs was so relaxing, with a beautiful view of the water and equally beautiful grounds. Our room was in the Summer House, with two Queen beds, a sitting room with sofa sleeper, "comfy chair," microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator, and small balcony with table & 2 chairs. There was also Internet access and a television. The breakfast included hot and cold items, plenty to get you started for a full day of relaxing, swimming in the pool or heading into town. The carriage ride is a relaxing 30 minutes, with return trips on the hour. We had two dinners here, and both were delicious. They offer a $35 dinner which other diners seemed to enjoy, including an amuse bouche, soup, salad, entree and dessert. We ordered from the ala carte menu. The whitefish was delicious, as was the creme brulee. The second night I had a chicken Caesar salad, also delicious. The staff, especially the dining room staff, were all friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
Right next door is a Grand Hotel restaurant, Woods, for anyone looking for a little more variety. We didn't eat there but purchased box lunches for our bike ride around the island.

Newcomers to the island, we were a bit apprehensive as the carriage went further and further from town. But, rounding a final bend, we were confronted by an expansive wooded green lawn and an old mansion-like hotel. The rooms were large somewhat recently renovated, the staff was Ritz Carleton-like, and the dinner (at least my whitefish) was superb. The view across the back lawn was of the Straits and the Bridge. Breathtaking! In the morning, we walked the 2 miles back to town taking in the wonderful old Queen Ann houses (with their 125 year old arbor vitae hedges) in the Hubbard Annex, and also The Pontiac Trail that fronted the bluff just north of the Grand Hotel.

We stayed July 10 & 11, 2013 with our boys (11 and 13). We arrived with our bikes so, when we hit the dock our things were taken up to the Inn and we rode our bikes a bit. Our bags arrived just as we needed them and all the staff were so pleasant and polite. We stayed in the summerhouse so that we could have a bit more space. We had two queens, a sitting area (pull out couch and comfy chair) and a kitchenette with table. We could even view the bridge from our balcony. Our room was bright, airy and comfortable. The Inn is beautiful and the grounds are really lovely. We took advantage of the breakfast buffet each morning. It was fresh with plenty of warm and cold options. All we needed was a small afternoon snack (easy to find in town :) The pool was perfect for relaxing after a day of riding around the island. We also made sure to find time to relax on the porch and just take in the view of the grounds, the straits and the bridge. This is the perfect place to stay. It is away from the hustle of town but only quick bike ride when you want it.

Had our wedding at Stonecliffe on July 6,2013. We booked nearly 30 rooms and the service and attention to detail was wonderful.. We had out wedding in the grotto, it is beautiful, The Inn has the best views on the island and you are away from all the hustle and bustle of town. If you wish to visit downtown, it is only 20-30 minutes by bike or walking, max. The food is superb and the caring by the staff made our event the best. We have been there twice in the past 2 months, spending a week at the Inn. Highly recommended!!

Room Tip: The mansion is not air conditioned, the newer building is.

Beautiful peaceful place to spend a couple of days. Arrived at the dock to be greeted by Tyler, who works for Stonecliffe. He arranged for our bags to be delivered to the hotel. We walked around town a little and then took the Stonecliffe taxi out to the hotel There is a charge for this. We checked in and our bags were brought up to our room promptly. We stayed in the Mansion on the 3rd floor in the Kilkenny room and although there is no air, it was very comfortable. Weather was about 75 degrees out. Our view was fantastic. Beautiful grounds overlooking the water and the bridge. Pooll very nice, chairs and towels included in your rate. Lounge was charming in the old English style. Staff was great and always smiling. I loved that. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant both nights we were there and we were not disappointed. I even took a picture of my soup because it was so beautiful. All and all, I would stay there again anytime. Worth the trip!
