“Instead of dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

After a robust "happy hour" we opted to skip dinner and bicycle down the hill for ice cream! It was a no-brainer! If only we hadn't had to ride back up....

“yummy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013

This is a really nice ice cream parlor with lots of ice cream flavors. The ice cream is creamy and delicious and they have some really good sundae combinations. This is one way to get a sense of The Grand Hotel even if you're not staying there.

“Good ice cream with a view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

Sadie's has opened on the east end of Grand Hotel near Cadotte Avenue (Grand Hill). I like the fact that it is accessible from the street and does not require the $10 entry fee to visit. The space was formerly occupied by their flower shop, which has moved into the hotel.

We made our visit after dinner at Grand Hotel's Gate House restaurant, just down the hill from Grand Hotel. The decor is delightful and fitting of their Westiminster-winning Scottish Terrier, Sadie. Lots of fun details in the decor and even the menu offerings.

The best things however, are the ice cream and view. Hudsonville Ice Cream is served and I have to admit, very tasty. While we requested single scoops in cups, the portions we received were huge. The staff was also welcoming and friendly, even though they knew we were not hotel guests.

The view is also good. While certainly not as breathtaking as from the front porch or cupola bar, it's still high enough to see the water and all the way down Cadotte toward town.

While not everyone is going to make the trip to Sadie's from town, I'd say it's worth the trip to enjoy the nicest ice cream parlor on Mackinac Island.

“Old time ice cream parlor with classic charm.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

This ice cream parlor opened just a few years ago, it says on the plaque. There was plenty of choices and we got a nice big one to share (and save a few bucks.) We sat outside on the porch by the parlor to eat. If you want to go anywhere in the Grand Hotel other than Sadie's it costs you $10 each and there's a dress code.
