“Newly Renovated”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

It's a great hotel. Clean, most of it is newly renovated, excellent location (right downtown with an excellent lakefront view in most rooms+balconies), helpful and knowledgeable staff. Slightly on the pricey side, but then again, that's Mackinac Island for you, everything is more than it is on mainland. 4.90 for a Tall Chai Tea Latte at Starbucks. A definite recommendation!

We have been vacationing on mackinac island every 4th of july week since 1996. Until this year we had only stayed on our boat at the marina, however, we sold our boat with sleeping accomodations at the end of last year and were going through island withdrawl so decided to take our small 18 foot boat to the island for 3 nights starting on labor day. I am so glad we chose to stay at the Chippewa! We stayed in the cheapest room, however, it was perfect. . . bright, clean, cold, a nice view of main street, flat screen tv, wifi, coffee maker, iron and board, hair dryer, and one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept on. We, also, loved the hot tub and close location to the marina and our boat. I would, definitely, recommend this hotel and will stay here again.

Our suite was light and airy with a view that was fantastic. It was roomy and a great place to entertain. The harbor, sunrises, sunsets, food and accomodations were perfect. It is one of the places you want to revisit and we will.

Room Tip: If you want a view of the harbor, rising and setting sun this is the place!!

We always stay at the Chippewa hotel, because its usually the most affordable. We just recently stayed for our 10th anniversary and we had a 4th floor balcony, that was absolutely amazing! The view was breathtaking, and the suite was spectacular. Couldn't have asked for anything more, all the staff are very nice and professional. Our room was cleaned twice daily and the king bed was so comfortable. Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Rooms on the street side are more affordable and its fun to watch everyone downtown. Rooms on the ha...

Beds and pillows were comfortable, good location, and the wireless signal was strong. Bathroom was cramped. If we stay here again we will try to get a water view, since the street view was nothing special. Loved the outdoor Pink Pony bar, and the hot tub was very nice also. Be sure to get a massage at the Lilac Spa at their sister property, the Lilac Tree. Also, if you go for a carriage tour, try to get the private one- they are parked right across the street at the little park- if you have 4 people it is the same price as the public carriage tours that have folks packed in like sardines- we got another couple that was in line at the public tour and asked if they wanted to split a private carriage with us and it worked out great!

Room Tip: Get the water view

When visiting Mackinac, everyone wants to stay at the Grand Hotel in Mackinac. It truly is a spectacular place, but we wanted something slightly less "pricey", on the water, and one room that could accommodate 5 people comfortably. Enter the Chippewa Hotel! It is perfectly placed at the end of main street. Very easy to get to everything. It's quaint, most rooms face the water, impeccably clean, and "suite-like". We had 2 bedroom areas with 3 queen beds along with a living room that had a sleeper sofa and 3 televisions. 2 rooms had balconies with the best view of the water. They also have a great little restaurant in there "the Pink Pony" which faces the water. Service was outstanding. There's also a large outside pool area which is more of a small pool/giant jacuzzi that is heated. Perfect to sit,, stay warm, and watch the water. You get a great view of the wildlife in the water as well. The lake is incredibly clean, you can see through the water very clearly. If we visit the island again, we will be staying at the Chippewa! Worth every penny!

Room Tip: Every room here is a good room!

This was our first visit to the Chippewa but it won't be our last. After staying in the city for a few visits, and then we stayed at the Grand a few times, I think the Chippewa is our favorite. It is so close to everything on Main St. Our room was very clean and comfortable. We thought the noise from the patio and hot tub would be a problem since our room was right next to the patio. Wrongo! It was such a quiet, restful, sleep. The Pink Pony Bar and restaurant was very delicious. We will be back again next summer!

Room Tip: We had room 108, right next to the patio and hot tub. Only problem was the hotel bathrooms were als...
