“A place a calm and rest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

We were looking for a time of rest and calm and we found that at the Haan 1830. We were away from the very busy part of Main st. and took a little nap on the porch each day. Loved the quiet for a change of our busy life. Enjoyed visiting with other vacationer's at breakfast. The Inn Keeper's were so friendly and told us points on the Island to walk to. I would stay at the Hann 1830 again. It was good to step back in time for a couple of day's.

Room Tip: Our room on the second floor was great. we did not need the a/c.

The Haan family members are wonderful Inn keepers. Their hospitality is relaxed, friendly and casual. We arrived early and were welcomed to the living room where we could leave our bags, grab a fresh, home made muffin, coffee, and head out for the afternoon. There is no public bathroom in the house, but the Catholic church next door had a clean public bathroom where we could quickly change. We felt that staying away from Main St was a big advantage. We did walk our bags, but being Chicagoans, a couple blocks with a bag wasn't a big deal. For the return I paid $10 to get a cab ride to the ferry (Star line). Total worth it for the fun experience anyway.

The Jamaican worship service next door went until midnight, but somehow it fit the island's peaceful charm. The bed was super comfy. I don't remember the last time I slept so soundly. My alarm was the clippety clop of a horse drawn carriage going by and the sound of a lake breeze. I loved the claw footed bathtub/shower and the roomy bathroom. We stayed in the Pere Marquette and Rev William Ferry. These rooms are not for guests looking for total privacy since they are right over the front entry of the house and the bathroom is right at the top of the stairs by the front door. With 3 comfy beds it was perfect for us. Their antique decor all adds to the Mackinac Island feeling of staying a vacation in a movie set. We LOVED it!

Not a 5 star hotel, but most definitely a 5 star experience!

The Inn was very nice, the rooms were well decorated and clean. I was told that it was near the ferry dock, but make sure you take the Arnold Ferry, we took the Shepler's ferry, and it was too far to walk with our luggage and we had to take a horse taxi ($18).

There is no tv, which was a big problem for my sports obsessed family. We probably would not have stayed there, if we had known that ahead of time. But if you like relaxing and reading and don't care about the NBA playoffs, then it is a lovely place. It is located on the far end of the main street, so it is quiet at night.

Also note that some rooms require having to go up a lot of stairs, which can be tricky if you are elderly or not a fan of stairs.

Breakfast was basic, just coffee cake, muffins, hard boiled eggs, plain bagels, canned tropical fruit cocktail and some boxes of cereal and milk.

Room Tip: There is one room that has a kitchen, which is terrific for cooking a lunch or dinner and saving mon...

Most everything has been said by other reviewers. We very much enjoyed our stay. The Inn is well located and very nice. The managers were very friendly and breakfast was good both mornings. No tvs or radios-- so maybe bring a speaker for your ipod if you don't like silence. Also, our room had only a shower-- and it was really very small. Not much to be done about it though as this is an old house and you have to make things work. You'll survive! I would certainly recommend to friends.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with more than just the stand up shower. (I believe that ours was the only room w...

My husband and I visited for our Honeymoon. The Haans was perfect! The Inn was a delightful stroll away from the busy part of the town. It was located right next to a historic church, and in a quieter section of town. Everything was easy to get to from where we were staying. The Inn keepers were very knowledgeable and friendly about everything on the island. They went out of their way to make us comfortable. Our room was beautiful, and affordable. Lovely stay.

We stayed two nights in early October, and were very pleased. Our room was comfortable, the continental breakfast was delicious, and the hosts were very friendly and informative. The inn has ample porches to sit and watch the horse carriages and bicycles go by. We would definitely recommend Haan's.

Room Tip: Some rooms may have direct access to a porch.
