We were at the end of our trip and stayed here before returning "down below" to southern MI. We did not have reservations and were just looking for a place to stay. I liked the location near the water and took a chance. What a wonderful delight!! The person at the desk was so nice and personable. The room in which we stayed was lovely. It was decorated with antiques and the beds had beautiful quilts with matching shams and eyelet lace bed skirts. The room was across the street from Lake MI and we could hear the sound of the waves rolling in all night. There was a private patio (upper rooms have balconies) overlooking a wonderful view of the lake and we had a gorgeous view of the sunset.
The continental breakfast included brand name yogurt, bagels w/ cream cheese, pastries, and oatmeal packets. It was very basic, but satisfying and was served in a small, but charmingly decorated room. Everything was fresh.
This place may not qualify as the so-called "five star hotel" in the sense that it does not have a pool, concierge or other high-end amenities, but for a lakeside retreat with a touch of home, it is wonderful.
They don't need a restaurant on the premises because there are many excellent places to dine in the area.
The State Park is a few miles down the road and the beaches are lovely.
Ludington has excellent shopping and several art galleries.
Recreational options include bike rentals, nearby canoeing and kayaking and a trek to Big Sable Point lighthouse that is ab out 1.7 miles, and very much worth the hike!
