“Wonderful hybrid of motel and B&B!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2009

We were at the end of our trip and stayed here before returning "down below" to southern MI. We did not have reservations and were just looking for a place to stay. I liked the location near the water and took a chance. What a wonderful delight!! The person at the desk was so nice and personable. The room in which we stayed was lovely. It was decorated with antiques and the beds had beautiful quilts with matching shams and eyelet lace bed skirts. The room was across the street from Lake MI and we could hear the sound of the waves rolling in all night. There was a private patio (upper rooms have balconies) overlooking a wonderful view of the lake and we had a gorgeous view of the sunset.

The continental breakfast included brand name yogurt, bagels w/ cream cheese, pastries, and oatmeal packets. It was very basic, but satisfying and was served in a small, but charmingly decorated room. Everything was fresh.

This place may not qualify as the so-called "five star hotel" in the sense that it does not have a pool, concierge or other high-end amenities, but for a lakeside retreat with a touch of home, it is wonderful.

They don't need a restaurant on the premises because there are many excellent places to dine in the area.

The State Park is a few miles down the road and the beaches are lovely.

Ludington has excellent shopping and several art galleries.

Recreational options include bike rentals, nearby canoeing and kayaking and a trek to Big Sable Point lighthouse that is ab out 1.7 miles, and very much worth the hike!

My wife and I have been staying at the Inn at least once a year for the last 13 yrs.We always book a cat. 6 room, with a balcony looking towards the lake.We have a wonderful view of the lifgthouse,Lake Michigan, with the most perfect sunsets we have ever seen. We get what we pay for, a clean room with the best of views,a small breakfast, and hospitality. The staff is always accomodating. Will be going back for 3 nights in Sept. 08 and will expect the same.It would be nice if the inn had a toll free number for reservations, as I am always put on hold.

Room decor was nice. We booked the category 7, top of the line room. Not worth the price. Room smelled musty and bed was like sleeping on a rock. When we told owners only offered to give us a gift certificate. Would not go back so we didn't take the gift certificate. We reserved 2 nites expecting a 236.00 a nite room to be more comfortable. We checked out after 1 nite and lost 236.00 for the second nite. We were told it was non-refundable. We checked into the Holiday Inn Express for half the price and got a good nites sleep, unfortunately we lost 236.00 and has to cut our vacation short. This is not a place I would recommend.

Beds, like pillows, are a very personal thing. Some people like soft, some firm, and so on. Our beds are 5 star Serta mattresses. They are the best Serta has to offer for hotels.

This was our 2nd stay at the Snyder's Shoreline & they fulfilled expectations. If you are looking for a quiet, cozy or romantic stay, then this is your place. I highly recommend the lake view rooms, even though they are a little more pricey than the other hotels. The staff is warm, friendly & helpful.

The pool is above average, having a jacuzzi attached to the pool. The poolside was well maintained & clean. The room sizes (lakeview) were spacious & clean. The bathroom & shower were adequate. The porch/lake view is about as relaxing as you will get. Even though there is a boat launch & parking lot in front of the lake, it is still worth it. Great hotel for watching sunsets or the SS Badger.

As for breakfast, I recommend skipping their continental breakfast & opting for Hamlin's all you can eat buffet for $7.00.

My only complaints are the small breakfast area & VHS movie rentals. C'mon people.... it should be DVD's & On-Demand nowadays.... Get in to the now :)

The bottom line is, if you are looking for a weekend getaway, go for this hotel. Everything is still in walking distance - beach, marina, downtown, House of Flavors (ice cream). We would definetely go back, but only if we had a lake view room.

We came on the Fourth of July, without a reservation. The hostess was very friendly and offered us a handful of options, from rather inexpensive to a bit pricey. We chose a room with a deck and view of the lake (one of the more pricey options we had).

Truthfully, there is a parking lot (for the public boat ramp) between the hotel and Lake Michigan; but there is NO better lake-view in Ludington (or anywhere north of Grand Rapids, as far as we could find). There is only one other "lake-view" hotel in Ludington, and it has the main road, the public beach parking lot, and the public beach between it and the lake.

The room was charmingly decorated and cozy. The king-sized bed was comfy. There was a sink, fridge, and microwave. We even had free wireless internet access.

The deck was nice, with a couple of wood rocking chairs. We had a great view of the Ludington lighthouse and of the Ludington ferry coming and going (twice a day). The fireworks went off from the boat ramp parking lot, so we couldn't have had a greater view.

The free continental breakfast was adequate, but expect to carry the food back to your room as there is little room to eat where the food is.

We were only there one night, so we did not have any experience with the housecleaning staff.

If we ever have a chance to come back to Ludington, this is where we'll stay for a cozy or romantic stay and the best view of the lake in town.

The Inn is a pleasant place and we had a nice, clean room. The room was spacious - we had an end unit on the first floor. While it was a bit too cool to enjoy the balcony, it was nice to be out on for short periods of time,

I tend to stay at hotels, so this was a nice change.

We had a weekend special (fall colors, I think), which included a free dinner, so I felt we got our money's worth.

Returning from a long road trip from Minnesota to Boston, stopping off before taking the ferry across Lake Michigan and home, I was looking for something other than the inland Ludington offerings. I am a water person and wanted to be near Lake Michigan. My room was reasonable ($119), clean, and on the lake side. Even though a parking lot separates me from the lake, I can still see it and smell it, and I like that. I also like being able to sit outdoors rather than be stuck in the enclosed hallways of most hotels. The motel is neat and clean.

As I read previous reviews, it reminds me once again of how one experience can differ from another based on the room you are in. I'm sure the people who discovered mold and mildew are telling the truth, but my room couldn't be cleaner and neater. The clerk even allowed me to take a variety of room keys and look at the rooms before I decided.

If you want to be near the lake on your visit to Ludington, choose the Shoreline Inn.
