“weekend getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

Our weekend was a busy one. We were not given the room that we requested the first night. However, the front desk staff accommodated us on the second night by moving us to another room. There were a lot of kids running around. The managers reception was not worth attending, very small selection. The rooms were very outdated, with wallpaper borders peeling off the wall. Needs some updating.

Room Tip: rooms on the ends were quieter except in the morning, we overlooked the breakfast area and heard dis...

“What is worse than TERRIBLE?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

When I checked in, there was a 12-15 person line. That's okay, it was busy and three front desk staff members were working diligently to move people along. After 25 minutes standing in line, I made it to Carleton's terminal. He began with the obligatory greetings and looked up my reservation efficiently and politely. When he realized my room was not ready (at 5:00 pm), he told me that "house keeping is still preparing rooms" and "I will need you to stand over there; we will let you know when your room is available." I asked if he had a window when my room might be available (so I could walk away and come back). His attitude quickly devolved and he stared at his monitor (so as to not engage with me) and repeated exactly the same phrase as he did the first time: "house keeping is still preparing rooms. I will need you to stand over there; we will let you know when your room is available," but this time he seemed annoyed by my question. I asked "do think it will be 30 minutes? An hour?" He raised his head and his hand (gesturing to me to move away) "I don't know, I'll let you know" but really aggressively. I, at this point, had stood in line for 25 minutes, been told at 5:00 pm that my room isn't ready and I said to Carleton, "all I want to know is a range of how long you expect." He said, "I can't give you a range." I said "more than an hour; less than an hour?" FINALLY he said "10-15 minutes." I said (in a very condescending tone), "There we go. That's all I you had to say." Carleton's response: "WHATEVER." and he walked back to the office (which had the door leaning against the wall, as it was not attached any longer. NOT a great first impression when you walk in an Embassy Suites). I was the president of my 20-year class reunion and I selected this location and WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED by Barb, the facility, or the staff 3 years ago. It was great!!! But I do not think I will ever return because of Carleton, the detached office door, the various space heaters in the lobby. Looked very low-class. NOT AT ALL what I have come to expect from this, or any Embassy Suites Hotel.

“Not great.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

I have stayed at this particular hotel MANY times. I have communicated this SAME PROBLEM on each and every survey I have taken. The problem is NEVER resolved. You should initiate an arm band system for guests to use the facility. You have one person renting a room and bringing in ten or more persons and children to use the pool, hot tub and entire facility for free. These non-guests also come to your manager’s reception and to the free breakfast. We have seen a continuous decline in the number of guests in your hotel and this issue is a contributing factor. While we really enjoy Embassy Suites, we feel it has changed too much, and it appears these issues are not going to improve. We have discussed visiting another hotel in the future. Also, you need to renovate your pool and hot tub area and you need more variety of snacks at your manager’s reception. I have been told you provide more snacks during the weekdays. I have a feeling you cut back on snacks on the weekends due to amount of NON "guests" at the reception. Sad to see this hotel on the downturn.

“Needs updating and less screaming kids”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

Myself and a friend stayed here for a night for a child free night. The hotel isn't terrible and for the area, might be one of the better ones. The Livonia area doesn't have a plethora of hotels and this one was good for us. Like some of the other reviews, it is a bit dated. My biggest issue with the hotel is the dining experience, we had dinner there and the waitress was horrible. a bit overpriced for what it was, but we kind of expected that. But we got little tiny plastic cups of water and of course drank those right away and had to keep trying to flag down our waitress for more - which we only successfully did once. Very frustrating. We were paying for dinner, it's not like we were just eating snacks in the free managers reception.

My other complaint is the number of kids wandering around yelling. I did see a security guard walking about - checking his cell phone most of the time - and once he did say something to some kids. I get it, parents probably rent a room at a hotel with a pool during the winter for a break, but hey, don't let your kid wander around at 2am screaming. I was ready to go out and start patroling myself. Needless to say, not a lot of sleep with screaming girls.

Otherwise, during the week, it's probably fine. It's basic, nothing fancy, fine for a work place to stay.

Breakfast was good, but the line for omelets (which also was where the bacon was) was huge. Not interested in spending 30 minutes in line. Also lots of crazy kids cutting in front of you to get donuts. not the hotels fault - good job parents for doing a crappy job watching them. had three kids cut in front of me before I finally said something.

“OK Hilton, this property needs a facelift!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

Overall the lobby is very nice. I like the water features (with live koi/goldfish) that flow through the atrium.

I travel often for business and have a lot of exposure to different properties. My room seemed very clean, but dated. Everything looks worn. Carpet in the halls, furniture in the rooms, etc. This place just doesn't even compare to the beautiful Embassy Suites I just came from in North Indianapolis. I think this is one of the only hotels I've stayed in that still has CRT TVs and not flat screens.

The gentleman that checked me in was nice, but seemed distracted like I didn't have his full attention.

Have yet to explore any of the other amenities, but will update if warranted.
