“Top self sandwich!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2014

Fishtown is eclectic and a trip into the past. This place is rocking and rolling out fantastic sandwiches. The pretzel bread is awesome and all fresh goods are used to make your sandwich. Lots of choices and the staff works hard to move the line along. The place is small so don't be intimidated by the long line it moves fast. Picnic tables outside to share with others to eat your lunch. Water views are beautiful!

“We stop every time!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2014

Every time we're in Fishtown The Cheese Shanty will always be top on our list of stops. Renowned for it's pretzel bread (best anywhere), there are so many interesting things to choose from you'll want to browse before you choose. Selection is fantastic but one our favorite things to do is get a sub and take it outside and eat on one of the benches to get the vibe that is Fishtown. Even if there is a line it's more than worth it. As of 2013 they only accept cash so call ahead to be prepared.

“Lunch in Leland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2014

Saw the reviews for this place so we had to check it out, we were not disappointed. Ordered bag lunches and had the North Shore and the Lake Effect. Wonderful sandwiches and we ate them out back by the little water fall. Did have to wait in line about 20 minutes but well worth it! I was so full after the sandwich I didn't eat dinner that night.

“The Best Last Meal!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2014

My girlfriend saw this place and said we should grab a bite before we head over to North Manitou Island for a few days of wilderness camping. It was a cloudless sunny Tuesday afternoon in the mid 70's and we walked into the thin double swinging screen doors to a very busy shanty like kitchen. I was cleverly in the right place as it was busier than a NYC dive on lunch hour. My girlfriend opted for the North Shore and I the Lake street, We had our sandwiches upgraded to the box lunch that included a pop, chips, pickle and cookie in a brown lunch sac.Wow our taste buds exploded with the deli fresh ingredients and fresh baked pretzel bun, We enjoyed our lunch on a picnic table on the doc over looking the marina. It was a conveniently smart way to enjoy a super meal before we embarked on our trip to the island.TIP: You can phone in your order in advance, Highly recommended as the line was long however the counter person and army of cooks kept the line moving briskly. They also have variety of cold beer and local beers available as well to add to the box lunch.

“Disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2014

We had looked forward to the pretzel bread after our last visit several years back. The bread must have changed or it was stale the morning of our visit. Anyway, the store is great and the staff is great and they do an excellent job of packaging to go meals. Buy the combo. The sandwiches were very good except for the dry bread. Maybe put extra mayo or mustard on and they would be better or try a different bread. Great location and a cool store.
