“Fun "base camp" to explore Keewanaw Peninsula!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Nice historic place. Cool pix on the walls. The Inn Keepers are friendly, willing to do what it takes to make your stay great. Breakfast is great! Other guests are fiendly and easy to talk to. No two rooms are the same and are comfortable. We'll be back and want to go the private restaurant they members of. Lots to do and see. You can go south and go back to Houghton, eat and drink in Calumet or head up to Copper Harbor, the very tip of the Keewanaw and view Lake Superior. We'll be back.

Room Tip: Review their website and call them with questions. Some rooms are small (comfortable) and some are...

My husband & I were on a 10 day cross-country snowmobile trip through the Michigan UP. I insisted we stop in Laurium and spend one night at the historical Laurium Manor Inn. Although the Inn is not directly on the snowmobile trail, it was very easy to get to on sleds. (And it is just around the corner from Tony's Kountry Kitchen - with wonderful baked goods.)

The Inn is beautiful and historical, and is very comfortable. Our room was on the second floor. (All rooms in the main building are on the 2nd or 3rd floor with no elevator.) The bed was large & comfortable. The bathroom had been modernized, but in keeping with the style of the house.

Julie, the owner & hostess, was extremely friendly and accommodating. I enjoyed getting to know her & the history of the Inn. A self-guided tour was available throughout the Inn, which I also enjoyed very much. It is clear that Julie likes people and loves running the Inn, which is very important. She tried very hard to make our stay there memorable.

Breakfast was very good (baked eggs with herbs, fruit, sausage, juice, coffee, and pastries).

Currently the Inn is open on a limited basis during the winter. Their main season is in the summer months.

Room Tip: If you have a lot of luggage or have trouble walking up stairs, choose a room on the 2nd floor (rath...

The Laurium Manor Inn is an outstanding Bed & Breakfast. The Inn Keepers are very friendly and into pampering their guests. The rooms are individually decorated with antiques but yet very comfortable. Breakfast is a treat on on our two morning we had Eggs with Gorgonzola Cheese and the second a Lemon Poppy Seed Pancake as the main entrees - both with sausage/links - delicious. There was the traditional fruit with yoghurt and granola, cereal, toast, jams, etc. A treat.
Staying also included a self guided tour of the restored library, den, parlor, and all the rooms which weren't occupied by guests. Don't miss the Ballroom on the 3rd floor.
Price was reasonable and therefore consider treating yourself to a couple of days living like the upper crust did.

Room Tip: Take your pick - all looked like fun.

My parents and I stayed here for 2 nights. We actually stayed in the upstairs of their carriage house, which is across the street from the actual Manor.
PROS:
-Check in was a breeze. The lady at the front desk was very helpful.
-The Carriage House had a little kitchenette which was stocked with coffee, tea and hot chocolate. The furnishings and decorations are all cute.
-Since we weren't staying at the main house, they brought us a plate of brownies or cookies everyday.
-It had a working gas fireplace which was really charming.
- Breakfast tasted good. It wasn't amazing, but it was good.
CONS:
-The furnishings are cute, but they aren't all that comfortable. The mattresses were extremely springy.
-When we first got to our room it was freezing. They didn't leave instructions on how to turn the fireplace on or how to operate the electric heat registers. We figured it out, but it would have been nice to have an instruction sheet.
-I noticed at breakfast several times they ran out of coffee and juice and several patrons had to wait for a refill.
All in all, I would stay here again, but I think I'd rather stay at the actual Manor house than at the carriage house.

We decided to stay in the Manor, which is a restored Victorian home in historic Laurium, Michigan. We were there two night while touring the Keneewau Peninsula and felt very pampered. The tour of the home is included in the stay, and the breakfast both mornings was scrumptious. The story of the property and previous owners is quite interesting and the restoration Julie and Dave have done is amazing. Loved it.

This place has been lovingly restored by the owner/hosts with period furniture and decorations + comfortable beds and bathrooms. If you love old houses, stay in this one! reasonable price and fabulous breakfast.

My wife and I stayed two nights at the Laurium Manor Inn. It was our first visit but it will not be the last. The Inn is steeped in history, when copper in the Keweenau was king.
Upon walking up the stairs for the first time and entering the foyer, we were totally amazed by the beauty of the Inn. The decor and furnishings are Victorian, and one is quickly transported back to a simpler time in Michigan's history.
The Inn is located on a very quiet and clean residential street.
We stayed in Room 1, which had a fantastic four poster king bed, fireplace and a private porch with a wicker swing. It was great to sip on a cup of coffee after a long day, swing on the swing, and just relax. On the first night of our stay we drank our coffee, chatted and watched as a thunderstorm was moving in. Sounds cheesy, but I wouldn't have traded that evening for anything.
The breakfast was excellent, with plenty of options and good conversation with the owner, staff and other guests.
The Inn is clearly a labor of love by the owners, Julie and Dave, and employees. They were well versed in the history of the Manor, very friendly, and were always more that happy to stop for a chat.
Thank you again to the staff and owners for a great stay. See you next year!
