“Phenomenal customer service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

I booked an incredibly cheap night through Priceline and received a very comfortable clean bed and room. Mostly though, I was blown away by the front office manager Allison. I have worked in the hotel industry and she provided a level of service I have seldom seen. Her ability to manage the youth, parents, high volume of guests while still answering the questions of individual travellers while seemingly short staffed was incredible. Great job!

We had twenty or so rooms blocked out for our wedding earlier this month and everything went pretty smooth. The contact for sales was very kind and helpful. I wish the block rate would have been more obvious and available to those booking after the deadline (deadline was one month before the wedding). But that is Courtyard's problem and not this specific hotel. The hotel itself is in pretty good shape. Our air conditioner sounded like an ambulance in the distance, but it really didn't matter. The room was spacious and comfortable. The shower was huge as well. The breakfast was quite expensive for the amount of food given, but it is hotel food... That's typical.

Wow! Where do I start? I wish they had a lower rating than zero. As a frequent traveler both for business and for pleasure it does not get much worse than this. I've had better experiences at Motel 6 and Red Roof Inn.

As part of a kids sports tournament we had a group of about 6-8 families. The arrival and check in experience were just fine. We had asked for a menu for a local pizza establishment which they graciously provided. We ordered delivery then proceeded to enjoy our dinner in the lobby. About 30 minutes later an EXTREMELY rude manager informed us we were not allowed to sit in the lobby and eat nor enjoy our own outside beverages. It was blatantly obvious the only reason she was doing this was they were losing sales on their ridiculously overpriced food and drinks. We asked if we could go outside in the courtyard and were told no. The only place we could eat and drink was in our rooms. The real kicker was her handing us a piece of paper with "rules" on it AFTER this had already happened. Sure would have been nice to receive this at check-in.

We head up to our rooms which were all in same floor and same general location. A few us pull up some chairs in the hallway and have drinks and some nice conversation. We were not loud or obnoxious in any manner. About 9pm another employee informs us we need to get in our rooms and be quiet or we will be kicked out of the hotel.

We are an affluent sports club that has stayed in hotels at least 20-30 times in the last 3 years. NEVER have we ever encountered such terrible treatment and hospitality. We are usually given a banquet room or allowed to use the lobby to eat and drink. Not at Courtyard Lansing!

Lastly rooms are outdated and they don't even have an elevator. Be prepared to schlep all of your luggage up stairs when you arrive.

My advice is go somewhere else or you will regret it. Especially if part of a group of families.

Hello Curt,

As a parent of a child that participates in travel sports I understand your review. I too like to be able to gather with the team to eat. However, allowing outside food into our restaurant is a violation of our food license and we do want to be able to continue serving food and beverages to our guests in the future. I liken it to ordering a pizza and taking it into a McDonalds. Also, gathering in the hallways, even if you are being quiet can be disturbing to those sleeping just a few feet way. We do our best to accommodate all of our guests but must keep the peace and quiet near the guestrooms. I am sorry that we disappointed you.

Very friendly and helpful staff.

Clean rooms. Easily accessible from highway. Room lacked refrigerator which has become almost an expectation.

In house "Bistro" restaurant is adequate. Near by Mexican restaurant is very good.

I am so pleased that you had a great stay with us at the Courtyard! We do pride ourselves on delivering excellent guest service and a great night's sleep! I am curious about the refrigerator comment as all of our guest rooms do have a refrigerator in the room. I will definitely check on this issue and you can be sure if you stay with us again you will find a nice, cold refrigerator in the room!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

We stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott, Lansing on the weekend of March 16. As far as hotel stays go, it wasn't the best I've had, but it wasn't the worst, either.

First off- everyone with whom we traveled had the same issue with their GPS- the hotel is actually on Riley, off of Lake Lansing Road. If you try to enter the parking lot from Lake Lansing... you are not going to enter.

The staff working the check in desk was friendly. It was nice to be greeted with a smile on such a gloomy day. Others in our party said they had issues, but we had none. Checkout went just as well.

My first disappointment was that we could not find an elevator! This is a 2 floor hotel, and we were on the second floor. We had many items to bring up to the room. If there was an elevator, it needed to be more clearly labelled, because no one in our party of several rooms was able to locate the it.

Our room was adequate. The beds were comfortable- especially the pillows. I slept well both nights. The room was not a clean as I expect from my past stays at Courtyards. There were bottle caps and lots of dust bunnies around the bed, and several golf balls on the window sill. (?) That was odd to find in Michigan in the winter. We also did not have either a fridge or microwave in our room. Our friends across the hall had the same type of room, and they at least had a fridge. The only microwave was in the lobby. We did have a coffee maker, which made my room mate very happy

There is a nice size (and clean) pool area, and an exercise room. Both were in very good condition, and many people in our party used both.

The one thing I did miss was the breakfast buffet. This Courtyard has switched to the Bistro/coffee shop model. They had a Starbucks, with a limited menu, and a little "convenience store". There was also a bar area in this hotel. It was quite pricey, so we opted to eat off-site. We had brought a few things to keep in the room, but this was a problem with no fridge as our cooler was only made to transport, not keep things cold the entire weekend. I threw a lot away.

There were several restaurants near the hotel, and there is a mall across the street, as well as a Meijer a short distance away. It was a 15 minute commute to the Lansing Center.

While our stay wasn't outstanding, it wasn't the worst, either. Pretty average, I would have to stay.

Room Tip: If you have any issue with stairs, request a first floor room. Check with the front desk to see if y...

A GEM in East Lansing! The entire staff is knowledgable and kind! They are always willing to give local tips and help out in any situation. Honestly, like a home away from home! Everything we needed was here --from Starbucks and breakfast in the morning to cocktails in the evening! Very clean and comfortable ! Location is awesome too! Plenty of restaurants and shopping across the street and MSU a 10 min car ride! Make frequent trips here and would NEVER stay anywhere else!

Rate for this hotel is a bit higher compared to others. Breakfast is not included although a package is available for additional cost. The Starbucks Bistro onsite is pricey.

Standard room is very spacious however, some have fridges and others do not? Not very consistent here.

Front staff is very helpful and friendly. Overall not a bad property to be at although you will find better value and pricing at other hotels.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the courtyard - will be more quiet. Only 2 floors but no elevators so be care...
