This hotel was a great location, and clean, but in major need of updates.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2011

I recently stayed at this Red Roof (East Lansing) while working at the nearby university.

Since the last stay, the motel has undergone some improvements (the outside corridor has been repaired and new carpeting has been installed in some of the rooms, as well as some new heating/air appliances). When speaking with the front desk staff, they mentioned that they doing what they can with the funds available until they can do a thorough overhaul.

Pros: Location and Service. Very friendly and exceptional staff. Excellent shower water pressure. Fast Wi-FI. Close Proximity (1 mile) from MSU.
Cons: Thin walls, out-dated/ worn-out furniture/wallpaper/ carpeting in some rooms.

I switched rooms after my first night due to a loud group in the adjacent room...at 3AM.

Was a great deal. TV was working fortunately :) Beds were comfortable, good size bathroom. Would stay there again if I get a chance. You will get good online deals.
Pros: price, location (Close to I96), comfort
Cons: no restaurant, no bar, no gym

I've included a pic I took at 5 am after I smashed one on my pillow.
Absolutely disgusting!

With the current scare in the news, I've been more diligent about checking under mattresses etc. when I check into a hotel. (I travel almost every week.)
I didn't see any at all even though the place is a bit run down.
I wouldn't have chosen this place at all - my employer booked it.
It just proves to me that even though you don't see any when you first check in doesn't mean they're not hiding.
Now I just wonder if there are any in my luggage!
I sure don't want to take them with me!

We stayed for 2 nights, it was a very nice place. Staff was very friendly, room was clean. What more could you ask for, plus it was right off the highway.

While the Red Roof Inn is known as just a basic motel, this one is just plain bad.
The potholes are so bad in the parking lot its like navagating land mines. Watchout for the sinkhole in the back! The room was dirty....stained bedding, mold in the bathroom, and unvaccumed carpet. The activities going on in here look suspect. Cheap rooms for partying, drug deals, and patrons. This morning the police surrounded the building because crime suspect was thought to be holed up in the hotel somewhere. This place is a dump. Don't be fooled by the cheap price. It stinks.
