“Great new chef and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

We had dinner on June 27 with our daughter who turned 21 and it couldn't have been a better evening. Butch came by the table and once he learned it was our daughter's 21st birthday he said it was customary for him to buy a shot for the birthday and do one with her. What a nice gesture. The food was really above expectations and we soon learned that there was recently a new chef hired. Kudos on the quality and presentation. Butch also offered a number of recommendations for a visit we are planning to Napa in August. We walked out agreeing this was our new favorite restaurant in Holland.

“Great Restaurant in Cute Downtown Holland”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2012

We recently spent a few days based in Holland touring Western Michigan. We stumbled across Butch's our first evening in town. We had no reservations but the charming hostess offered us drinks and a cosy place to sit while waiting to be seated. We ordered a glass of wine each and it was very nice wine by the glass. The drinks no sooner arrived when a table was ready for us. The place was busy, but the service was excellent, and the food was great. I had the calamari to start and it was excellent, my husband had the tomato basil soup, he thought it was very good but nothing special. I wasn't terribly hungry so went with the chopped salad which was excellent, husband had the fish tacos and thoroughly enjoyed them - I had some too and they were great. The atmosphere was great so we stayed for coffee and dessert - raspberry sorbet yum! The next day we went to Saugatuck for a bit of shopping and asked around about good places to eat in Holland - the resounding answer was Butch's - weren't we lucky to find it the first night. So we went again the next evening. Again, no reservations, we were told the wait could be up to an hour, we were okay with this as I wanted to see the shops. They took our phone number and within 20 minutes they called to let us know they had a table for us. This time we were in the bar area seated at a high topped table. Again, it was very busy, and again the service was excellent, the wine was excellent and we got great food. This time we shared the mussels starter, we both agreed they were excellent. I had the crab encrusted wild salmon and loved it. My husband had the gorgonzola caesar salad and the cuban sandwich, both fabulous. Again a wonderful experience with a great atmosphere. All the wait staff are friendly, knowledgeable and fast. I do think you can't go wrong with a visit to Butch's.

“Best Bar in town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

Butch's is the place to go if you're looking for a drink with some friends. Their staff is friendly and they have an excellent selection of beer and wine. The atmosphere is chill and low-key, a great place to talk with friends or go on a date.

“excellent mixologists, excellent wine list and excellent dining”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

We were in Holland MI for a wedding and the bride suggested Butch's for an evening meal when we arrived a day before the wedding. The service was great and our waiter even gave us gratis advice on getting the best breakfasts for our few days in town. I had an well made Negroni for a pre dinner drink, and a shared crevice of halibut for a starter and a lovely entree of diver scallops served over a saffron risotto grilled cake. Yum.

“Go to Butch's to take it slow”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2012

Right in the middle of homey downtown Holland, Butch's is a restaurant with unpretentious elegance. The Wine Spectator awards in the front window do not lie--Butch knows his wine! You will dine in the company of his well-thought out wine selection and if you may very well be tempted to get up during you meal and peruse the shelves just to see what he has. That is, until the food comes! We have never been disappointed by anything we've ordered there, and we are there often. The service is friendly and efficient, but the pace is slow and relaxed. This is the sort of restaurant to go to when dinner is THE event of the evening.
