“Interesting place, but........”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2014 via mobile

Ate here earlier this week. Wow, what a nice place---very impressive. You don't see many restaurants designed in a European design like this. Then we were served the meal, which looked absolutely amazing when it arrived at our table.
The food was just OK, not great, but the service was excellent. There is a cafe/bakery here, too and our baked goods were large and tasted good.
This place is a dining experience that you might like, just wish our food was a little better.

“Great food but bad attitude and service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2014 via mobile

We have dined here many times and enjoyed the food. Prices have risen above other local eateries and salads are now ala carte. This would be well and ok if the service you received off set the extra cost, however this is not the case. On the last few occasions service was slow and uncaring. We have brought guest here and they have been taken back enough even to write a letter to the owners. We thought we would give them a try again when my wife and I tried to use our club certificates for both our anniversary and ones for our birthdays ( free meal with price of same or more ). Valentines day and during Tulip time (birthdays
) we were told that these were holidays ??? and we could not use them and it was not their fault if that is the way it worked out. It is to bad that ownership does not realize that for ever disgruntled customers they lose on an average four more.

“Great decor, decent food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

Stopped here on a Sunday around 11am recently. Bought a few bakery items / sandwiches and ate them in the area near the counter. Did not sit down for a meal. Cinnamon roll was 5 stars. Great flavor, biggest cinnamon roll I've ever seen. Turkey club on pretzel roll was ok. Bun was soggy and sandwich wasn't as fresh as we would've liked. Probably fresher during the week. Quality ingredients, though, including lots of turkey. Same with the ham & cheddar sandwich.

The decor and atmosphere are really nice. Old-school, European flair.

A great place to stop for a meal or a treat in downtown Holland.

“A Taste of Europe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

My father and I came here for a CCA teachers seminar and were not impressed by our hotel's breakfast. We needed something really substantial for the long dance seminars ahead of us.
We went walking and just a few crosswalks and a turn away from the hotel we found the Alpenrose. It was really quaint inside; almost like a small European cafe. The food was fabulous. I got the cheese and artichoke crepes.
We loved it so much we came back the day before we left for the airport.
Highly recommended. Lovely town, interesting decor, quiet, and delicious.
Not sure how lunch or dinner is but breakfast was lovely.

“A little taste of Europe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

We came to Holland for an overnighter with some friends and they had already been to the Alpenrose and love it because it's like being in Europe. We had to agree with them after having lunch, then dinner, and then breakfast the next morning there. All the meals were excellent! There were Gluten Free options for my husband. The décor is quaint and European, and anyone that has been to Germany will appreciate the delicious and authentic Weiner Schnitzel. Absolutely worth every penny! I have not been this satisfied with a meal in a long time.
