“Excellent family destination!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2014

Tunnel Park provides public access to Lake Michigan and also ample space for volleyball, frisbee, and picnics. The name comes from the tunnel through the sand dune which allows visitors to escape some of the climbing often associated with West Michigan beaches. The tunnel helps give wheelchair-bound visitors views of Lake Michigan, but does not provide a rolling surface all the way to the water.

“Good volleyball & playground”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2014

There are three sand volleyball courts at the north end of the park but not on the beach. Most of the local vball crowd plays here during the week and not at Holland State Park.

The playground is nice for kids, and they also love playing on the dune. Running the steps and/or the dune really tires them out.

The beach itself is okay, tends to draw a younger crowd and more people smoke here than a casino. Can get buggy if the wind is still too.

Tip: park for free across the street and hoof it over. It means a bit of a hike to the waterfront though.

“Tall dune means a cool view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

To get here, you either climb steps up and down a steep dune, or take a tunnel under it to the beach. On the land side, there is a nice little playground, which was very recently refurbished, as well as some picnic pavilions and volleyball nets. Kids like to climb the land-side steps and run down the dune on the land side, and the view from up top is great. Like any beach with a parking lot, it gets crowded. People park on the side street when the lot fills up; the people with facing houses must hate it.

“Always a favorite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2013

One of our favorite parks in Holland. My husband has been coming here since he was a child. Walk through the dune tunnel to a beautiful view of Lake Michigan and the beautiful beach below. Great picnic spot and kids love to run up and down the dune.

“Tunnel park beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

Tunnel park is just a few miles from holland state park and you can walk in the beach from one to the other if you like!! Tunnel park has the unique feature of a small tunnel through a dune to walk through to get to Lake Michigan. There is volleyball courts, a playground with all new equipment for young children, a lot of picnic areas and additional parking across the street if the lot is full. There is a horse shoe set up but you must take your own horseshoes. Many grills to use but you can take your own in as well.
